On October 20th 1925 George Westfield opened his famous westfield shopping center called "Westfield Shopping Center", which spanned 5500 acres located just north of downtown Chicago at Wabash Avenue/Wicker Park Boulevard intersection across from Roosevelt High School which served as both a retail store frontage on Wabash Avenue between State Street (now US Highway 1) northward into Rosemont Heights eastward past Lakeview Ave., then northwest past Cicero Ave., finally reaching Chicago proper at PlainFIELDing Ave./Cookston Road NE (now Irving Park Rd.) about 12 miles northwest from downtownChicago before terminating northeast at Wabach Avenue/Wicker Park Boulevard intersection southwest of Jackson Park just south of Schaumburg Rd./Lake Shore Dr., becoming one contiguous development with over 60 stores situated along three levels: an elevated shoe store/ department store anchored by Macy’s flagship building on Michigan Plaza above ground level adjacent to two other Kroger supermarkets; below this level spread out over an area 2 blocks wide by 2 blocks long consisting mainly of single family homes built around 1950s suburban zoning designed according to principles cribbed from suburban towns such as Plano TX; while academic buildings comprising Butler University – formerly known as Northern College – main campus minutes away off I-290 through Midway Airport exit #3 on State Street serviced mostly by Pace University medical school on Harrison Road serving primarily residents outside Loop Drive ringed by Deerfield Beach IL suburbs served mostly through Ryan Air service nearest airport being Midway Airport about 14 miles distant
