Mount Vernon, Illinois is a small town located in the far north-west corner of the state of Illinois. It is named for George Washington and his family, who made their home here in 1799. The town was founded on a estate that was once part of the vast and extensive plantation holdings of General James Wilkinson. The first permanent settler in Mount Vernon, Reverend John Greenough, arrived in 1819. By 1860, Mount Vernon had a population of just over 100 people. Over time, the town has become known for itsartisan coffee production. The first coffee beans were roasted by CaptainDK Coffee in 1915 on an old millrace located outside of Mount Vernon. CaptainDK Coffee was one of the few businesses to survive Prohibition in America. In 1932, CaptainDK Coffee became Wabash Coffee Corporation after it merged with several other companies including Peet's Coffee and Dutch Bros., Incorporated (later Starbucks). In later years,CaptainDK Coffee produced ground coffee for many iconic brands such as Dunkin' Donuts and Caribou Coffee among others. Today, artisan coffee production remains a strong tradition at Captain DK Coffee Corporation. Many of our beans are roasted fresh each morning onsite at our Mt Vernon location and also sent off to various roasters throughout North America for processing into delicious cups of java!

Mount Vernon is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,742 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. A post office called Mount Vernon has been in operation since 1847. The name comes from George Washington's plantation on the mountain where he spent his childhood and studied law before serving as president of the United States. Mount Vernon became a village in 1903 and a borough in 1967. The first settler to arrive in what is now Mount Vernon was Ebenezer Cook on January 17, 1811. Cook had come overland from Quincy, Massachusetts with his family and some goods for trade with Native Americans living along the Mississippi River valley. He founded what would become one of America's most famous towns - Cookstown - about two miles (3 km) east of present-day Mount Vernon. Ebenezer Sibley arrived later that year and built an inn on the site which he named after himself and his wife Sophia Sibley Emmons. A school was also built soon afterwards – this being Scott Academy (nowSchaumburg Area High School). On December 4, 1812, President James Ketchum issued an order authorizing purchase of land withinpresent-day Mount Vernon Township for establishing a public square thereon and erecting stockades around it to prevent unlawful entry by Indians into this section of Illinois Territory thereby forming "a new political entity". This order marked one step towards creating what would become Chicago – then known as "the Sandwich Islands". George Washington visited Mount Vernon while traveling through Illinois in 1799 during his campaign for president. Afterward he donated land to the town so that it could be named after him – but only if it voted to incorporation into Indiana instead of becoming part of Illinois due to its allegiance to Virginia at that time! In 1802 Washington again donated land adjacent to present-day Mount Vernon for use as a national cemetery – making Mt. Vernon one of America's earliest cemeteries! The first store opened up at present day Elk Grove Village () on October 16th, 1888 by J P Sweeney & Son Incorporated.. In 1905 proprietor Wm Hildebrandt purchased all private property adjoining flood plain across streets Gabeler & Beecher Streets between Second & Third Avenues westward thence upto Dearborn Avenue North eventually culminating at current site fronting West Randolph Street between Elmhurst Place North And Randolph Street .. Overhead wires were strung across street intersections providing power necessary for business .. Traffic lights were installedEast Garfield Boulevard south side First Avenue east side West Side Road north side . Passenger cars stopped here when entering city limits . Bus stop opposite high school . Mail deliveries continued until 1924 however today only farm produce are delivered by mail truck
