To start off this paper, we will take a look at the history of Mount Prospect Coffee Company. This company was founded in 1850 by James Ransom and his wife Eliza Cargill. The first store was located on Broadway in what is now known as the West Side neighborhood of Mount Prospect. The original store sold only roasted beans and tea. However, over time the company grew to offer more than just roasted beans and tea – they also offered a wide range of products including flourishes (made from sugar or honey), breads, pastries, iced drinks and more! One of the most popular items that customers could purchase from Mount Prospect Coffee Company was their famous white chocolate chip cookie! These cookies are still made today and are usually enjoyed by tourists during Christmas season. Another popular item that customers could purchase from the company was theirpopular morning Joe! This drink was made with hot water and two sugars which gave it a sweet taste like no other beverage available at that time! In 1912, James Ransom passed away suddenly while he was on vacation in Europe. His son John took over management of the business until his death in 1938. John’s daughter Lois became headmistress ofMount Prospect High School after she graduated from college with a degree in education. After John’s death in 1958, Lois continued runningthe business until her retirement in 1986. During her lifetime she managed to achieve many accomplishments such as being elected president ofthe Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT) four times; being inducted into both the Chicago Business Hall Of FameandThe National Women’s Hall Of Fame;and serving on several boards including those for children’s mental health services and school lunches programs across Chicagoland.(1) After Lois died in 1986 she bequeathed her business to her granddaughter Linda who currently operatesthe business under the name “Mount Prospect Coffee & Tea Co., Incorporated." Linda has continued to make an impact on her community through her work with political organizations such as NORML(2)and Not For Sale PAC(3). Mount Prospect is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Mount Prospect was James Cockerill in 1828. He and his family farmed land around the community for many years before moving to their present-day home in 1854. By 1860, Mount Prospect had a population of about 50 people and consisted of just a few homes and two stores. However, by 1870, when an act creating Cook County was passed, there were over 1,000 residents living in Mount Prospect. One of the most significant moments in Mount Prospect's history came during the American Civil War (1861-1865). After Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest learned that Union forces were located near Mt. Prospect he made several raids into Illinois territory looking for friendly troops to join him on his march southward. One such raid took place on October 20th 1861 and killed six men and wounded thirteen others at what is now known as Forrest Park Cemetery northwest of town. This event helped spur settlers to move into Mount Prospect from all over Illinois with the hope of finding safety from Confederate attacks. In 1865, after Abraham Lincoln was elected president and Tennessee seceded from the United States, war hysteria set in across America as news reached Springfield that up to 10% of Springfield's male citizens had volunteered for military service along with anything else they could think of – something unheard of even five years earlier! Lincoln spoke out against this destructive patriotism during his final State Of The Union Address which became known as "The Emancipation Proclamation". Mount Prospect was a small town in Champaign County, Illinois, United States, that is now part of the city of Chicago. The community was founded in 1829 by pioneers from Kentucky and Ohio. The first settler in Mount Prospect was John Armstrong. By 1830, the population of Mount Prospect had grown to about sixty people. In 1836, the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill authorizing the erection of a military post at Mount Prospect. The post was named "Fort Armstrong" after John Armstrong's brother-in-law, who donated land for the post. Fort Armstrong served as a garrison for years until it was closed in 1854 due to its low troop strength and lack of defense against attacks from Native Americans. The fortifications at Fort Armstrong were replaced by what is nowMount Prospect Cemetery in 1868. In 1865, Mount Prospect became one of twelve townships organized into the new Champaign County when it was created from parts of Cook County. In 1890, President Grover Cleveland designated Mount prospect as an agricultural center for his Great Lakes region campaign tour through Illinois. After his visit, many farmers brought their crops to Mount Prospect and developed other businesses there such as grocery stores and wineries. The population of Mount Pleasant decreased during the late 19th century because most farms were abandoned or sold off to developers; however, by 1920 there were still about 280 residents living in what is now downtown Chicago Heights neighborhood on South Side.Chicago Heights Neighborhood It had become known as "the Hill". In 1925 it became home to Northwestern University's School of Veterinary Medicine which has kept much of its original buildings.
