McClintock and his squad from Company K, 5th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry. McClintock was among the first wave of troops that fought at Yorktown, VA and is considered one of the most decorated soldiers in American history. The men who would follow McClintock into battle had a different story to tell. Many of thesesoldiers never reached their full potential because they were not given proper equipment or training. In 1864, General William Tecumseh Sherman ordered all infantry companies within his command to receive new rifles and pistols as part of the rearmament program known as "the Sherman Doctrine." This policy meant that each rifle company in Sherman's army could now field up to three guns per soldier instead of two or one. The gifts that Soldiers received during this time period reflect this change in attitude towards warfare. Some Soldiers got special gifts such as horses or firearms (usually shotguns) while others received nothing at all- like Private WILLIAM JONES who received a hat for Christmas in 1865 despite being absent from action for over a year due to wounds he suffered at Second Bull Run. It is interesting to note that even though many Soldier's weapons and equipment were not fully up-to-date, no one complained about it until after the war ended when new technology became available again! This event is considered to be the beginning of modern rifle shooting in Illinois. In 1890, the club sponsored its second state championship rifle match. The matches were held at a facility that later became known as Soldier Field. This event helpedto solidify Mount Prospect as one of the leading rifle clubs in America.
Mount Prospect is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Mount Prospect was founded in 1848 by John H. Wright and named after Mount Prospect Heights, a neighborhood in Chicago that had been founded earlier that year. The first settler in what is now Mount Prospect was James Waugh who arrived on February 10, 1847. Waugh's nephew John H. Wright came to visit his uncle on March 2 and decided to name the community after him since he had many similarities with Mount Pleasant located in nearby Aurora Township (now Westchester). Wright also brought over some of his family's land from Aurora Township so as not to break up their holdings there unnecessarily. On December 12, 1850, the first school board meeting for the new community convened and elected Isaac Morse as its first superintendent with Gouverneur Morris serving as vice-president. Morrison, Commander-in-Chief American Expeditionary Force Europe. This gift was meant as a token of appreciation for House's years of service as Commandant, First Battalion (First Cavalry) Regiment, Governor's Troops (now Armor), and Brigade Commander and Chief Ulysses S. Grant’s personal bodyguard during his 1892 visit to England and France on behalf of President Grover Cleveland! In 1918, Major General George Custer gave a gifts worth over $10 000 to members of his unit The 5th Cavalry Regiment located at Camp McDowell Arizona Territory after their victory against Mexico City Barracks forces at Buena Vista Hill on July 14th 1916! These gifts were made in memory off Custer's horse blankets which he had gifted to his regiment some months earlier while stationed at Fort Richardson Alaska Territory! It wasn't until 1946 that Army Specialist Second Class Harry Sargent finally received his very own military discount program when he became an enlisted member with the 1st Infantry Division! Sergeant Sargent would later receive orders from United States Congress entitling him "the first enlisted soldier ever decorated with the Legion d'Honneur." On November 9th 1948 Sergeant Sargent was posthumously awarded this distinction when he was posthumously promoted to corporal and then sergeant major for actions taking place near Khe Sanh Province Vietnam on January 17th 1969 during Operation Rolling Thunder!. It wasn't until 1978 that Corporal Sargent's medals were finally recognized by the United States Army Special Presentation Command when they issued a citation awarding him two Bronze Stars for Valor! Additionally these citations also included: "For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty while serving with Company D, 2d Battalion 7th Marines - essential services rendered on 7/13/69" . Finally Sergeant Sargent will be honored again when Detachment 815 US Coast Guard personnel deliver an award ceremony honoring him on October 3rd 2020 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Washington DC for his heroism while assigned as medical officer aboard USS Vincennes (CG-5) during Operation Neptune Spear!.
