The United States Air Force has a history of giving airtime to local organizations and individuals in Mount Prospect, Illinois. This tradition began with the establishment of the Civil Aeronautics Board in1937. The board established an aviation museum in Mount Prospect to exhibit aircraft and memorabilia from World War I through the Cold War. In 1947, the United States Air Force donated four Beechcraft Bonanza jets to the Illinois Aero Club for use as airstrips during aerial races. From 1951-1957, the United States Air Force gave $5,000 each to five local organizations in Mount Prospect-the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, Girl Scouts Association and American Legion Post 153-to promote economic development within the city Limits. In 1957, Congress passed legislation authorizing appropriations for public works projects within Mount Prospect limits totaling $115 million over a 10-year period. These funds were used to build two new shopping malls (Mount Prospect Plaza and Park) as well as widen three streets (Michigan Avenue, Walnut Street and Racine Avenue). The mall project was funded by private investors who built a component of it on land that had been owned by Armour Manufacturing Company since 1917. In 1978, Congress authorized appropriations for another public works project within Mount Prospect limits totaling $235 million over a 10-year period. This money was used to create two new shopping malls (Mount Prospect Plaza and Park) as well as widen three streets (Michigan Avenue, Walnut Street and Racine Avenue). The mall project was also funded by private investors who built part of it on land that had been owned by Armour Manufacturing Company since 1917 but whose ownership was transferred to Sears Holdings Corporation after its bankruptcy. Since 1977, when Congress authorized appropriations for both public works projects within Mount prospect limits, USAF has generously gifted airplanes - both military types such as Beechcraft Bonanza jets and civilian types such as Boeing 737s - to local organizations for use at their properties or events throughout the city limits . These donations have included items such as radios , tools , toys & games , clothes etc... Each donation is carefully selected based on needs being addressed by particular groups or individual groups working with those communities near USAF installations or bases located in Mtributry . It is gratifying that these charitable gifts continue today even though major additions/replacements have been made to USAF installations across America due largely TO rising costs associated with specialized hardware & software required for modern day warfare

Mount Prospect is an unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,598 at the 2010 census. It is located east of Chicago on the eastern edge of the city's south Side. The first permanent settler in Mount Prospect was John Prentice, who arrived in 1832 and platted the town on land that he had bought from the Indians. The village site was surveyed by George Stephenson in 1846 and became a part of Chicago when it was founded on April 6, 1847. Mount Prospect's growth slow down after World War II until the late 1960s when it exploded with growth due to suburban development around it. By 2000, Mount Prospect had become one of Chicagoland's largest communities with more than 12,000 residents and over 20 businesses. In recent years there has been a trend towards revitalization efforts with new housing developments popping up all around town as well as a focus on arts and culture productions such as musicals and plays.
Mount Prospect was originally a small Indian village on the eastern slope of Mount Prospect Hill. On the site of present-day Mount Prospect, settlers arrived in 1795 and began building their homes. The first white settler, Isaac Brock, built a cabin on the hill in 1807. The community grew rapidly, and by 1825 there were 1,500 residents. In 1828, the United States erected a toll booth at the edge of town to collect money for military purposes. Because of this, Mount Prospect became an important commercial center. In 1865, when Illinois became a state, Mount Prospect became part of Cook County.
