The first coffee shop in Morton, Illinois was opened on December 5th, 1892 by John J. McNaught and his wife Jennie. The McNaughts ran the business until 1912 when they sold it to Harry Kugelman. In 1916, Harry Kugelman bought out McNaughts and changed the name to The Coffee Shop. In 1922, The Coffee Shop moved to its present location at 16th and S Streets in Morton. On May 4th, 1971, The Coffee Shop was destroyed by a fire that started in a recycling bin outside.
