Coffee was first roasted on July 29, 1795, in the town of Morton, Illinois. The first coffee beans were picked by a man named Nicholas Roquefort. He grew them at his farm and then brought them to Paris where he roasted them and sold them to French buyers. By 1825, coffee had become so popular that it was being traded all over the world. In 1870, a man by the name of James Wetmore started trading coffee beans from his plantation in Illinois to Boston. This gave birth to the modern day bean trade because now people could purchase different types of coffee from around the world without having to go back home and buy whole beans again and again. In 1888, a company called Peet's Sons Coffee Company was founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota with Colonel John Doolittle as their president. They became one of the most successful Christian roasters in history because they took pride in quality products and didn't produce low-quality coffee like other companies did. They even placed an order for 50 million pounds of Brazilian coffee which helped start Brazil's independence movement! From 1912 until 1971, Rheingold Coffee Company was located in Morton. Their famous Dutch roast helped make Morton one of the most vibrant towns in central Illinois during this time period. The company later moved to Illinois after founder Jens Jacobsen passed away in 1978. Morton is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 4,509 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Morton is named after General David Dixon Morton, who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Illinois. The city of Morton was platted on November 2, 1881 by commissioners John P. Haggerty and William S. Donnellan with a total land area of . The first post office opened in October 1882, and remained open until it closed on September 26, 1903 under mail order from St Joseph Mines & Trading Post (now known as Peoria Mining Company). Morton experienced some growth during its early years; by 1890 it had a population of 1,500 residents. However, this prosperity did not last long due to competition from larger cities such as Chiroptera and Aurora. By 1901 the population had decreased to 350 residents due to various factors including rapid industrialization around the town and increased immigration from Ireland and Italy. With no other major industry or community nearby to offer services or commerce, many people turned to government for economic assistance which led to an increase in crime rates within the town limits during these years - even more so than elsewhere within Kane County at that time. Morton is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, and the county seat of Kane County. It was named for Washington Morton, an American politician who served as the 36th Governor of Illinois from 1851 to 1857. The population was 7,865 at the 2010 census. The eldest son of George W., Jr., and his wife Lucy (née Goudreau), Morton began life in what is now Kane County on December 12, 1830 when he was born to George W. Sr.#2 and his wife Esther (née Brown). At that time it was part of Northwest Territory which included all of present-day Illinois except for a small area near Chicago that belonged to Michigan. The region that would become Morton had been explored by Hennepin Creek settlers since 1790 and by 1800 there were about 20 buildings in what is now the city limits #1 along with 2 Indian trails leading into unknown territory east of Kankakee Lake where one creek emptied into another creek then led southward eventually emptying into the Mississippi River near modern day St Louisville#2 George W., Jr.'s father also served as a justice of the peace in Winnetka until he died suddenly in 1807 at age 42 years old after being elected treasurer for Cook County #3 When George III appointed him collectorgeneral for all southern Illinois in 1818 he became known as "the first Cassius Clay". After serving two terms as CollectorGeneral he returned to Winnetka where he died on February 16, 1827 at age 70 years old It took until 1840 before Winnetka finally annexed Morton so that it could be part of Kane County . By 1850 only 1/5ths of present-day Morton remained undeveloped with most land belonging to other towns including Aurora, Peoria, Bloomington etc.#6 In 1862 when Lincoln moved West to become president he chose Knox County IL as his new home while retaining jurisdiction over parts west of Chicago including Kane County which formed Knox CountyIL within three years . When Lincoln left office Polk replaced him as President and made Butler IL its new home but this arrangement lasted only until March 4, 1865 when Butler merged with DeKalb CountyIL making Butler again separate from Kane County . By 1870 many residents had moved away origrated elsewhere so that less than 1% remained within town limits #7 From these beginnings through various changes local government has evolved gradually evolving into what we know today thanks primarily to progressive leadership under Mayor John Daley who has held office continuously since 2003
