Morton Grove, Illinois is home to a large military deployment history. The town was founded in 1872 by General John B. Morton and his family as a farming community. By the end of World War I, the town had evolved into an industrial center due to its proximity to munitions plants and other manufacturing facilities. However, during World War II, Morton Grove became a significant military base as it served as the primary location for the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) within Illinois. Throughout World War II, Morton Grove played an important role in both the European and Pacific theaters of war. The town's largest employer during the war was Allied Signal Company which manufactured electronic equipment for USAAF aircraft. Allied Signal also operated a hospital in Morton Grove which treated wounded American soldiers and airmen from both sides of the conflict. After World War II, Morton Grove experienced some growth but remained largely unchanged for several decades. In 1972, however, things began to change when Illinois Governor Richard Manges signed legislation creating the Morton Grove Airportmodernization project which aimed to improve airport infrastructure and make it more efficient and accessible for use by local businesses and consumers. As part of the project, Allied Signal relocated their operations from Morton Grove to downtown Chicago while retaining their headquarters building in nearby Hoffman Estates. This move provided new life to what had once been an aging community that saw little reason to keep up with contemporary technology despite its importance within Illinois' aviation industry. In recent years,morton grove has seen continued growth thanks in part to its status as a prominent tourist destination due in part to its rich military deployment history

Morton Grove is named after Israel Morton, an early settler and founder of what would become Morton Grove Township (now Forest Park). Israel Morton's son John A. Morton founded a lumber business in 1847 that became one of the largest in the United States. The city was first settled by Germans in 1847, followed by English immigrants in 1850 and Irish immigrants in 1865. In 1886, the city was incorporated as a village under then-Mayor George Fenton with a population of 100 residents. In 1902, it became a town with a population of 2,000 residents. The village merged into the town on January 1, 1954; however, on October 15th of that year, Mayor Harry Siever dissolved both villages due to their differing populations (the merged village had 3 times as many residents as did the new town). On November 5th voters re-elected Mayor Siever to continue his administration throughtown amalgamation proceedings which were completed on December 12th 1954 when all former Village properties were annexed into Forrest Park Township including all but 4 homes from Village history

Morton Grove was founded as a small agriculture village on a tract of land that had been granted to Israel Ziegler by the British Crown in 1847. The community grew slowly until World War II when it exploded into growth due to its strategic location as a commercial center on I-88 and I-90. The postwar boom led to increased housing development and social tensions over various issues including race, class, and parental expectations for their children. In the 1990s, Morton Grove became an increasingly commuter town as access to quality education and job opportunities improved in neighboring towns outside of Chicago; however, recent trends suggest that Morton Grove may experience another significant growth spurt for some time to come.

A new industry began to grow in Morton Grove, which was the development of Telephone Company wires through the township. This new industry led to increased commerce and prosperity for the townspeople. By 1925, Morton Grove had a population of over 10,000 people and was one of the most populous towns in Illinois.
