Small batch coffee has been a popular beverage in Montgomery, Illinois for over sixty years. The origins of smallbatch coffee can be traced back to the early days of the community. In 1916, Mr. and Mrs. Harry White founded the first small-scale grocery store in Montgomery. They sold groceries and espresso drinks from their premises until 1949, when they opened a second store which became known as The Coffee House. The Coffee House was very successful and helped to encourage other businesses to start up in Montgomery. This industry growth led to the development of many different cafes throughout the city over the years. One of these cafes was The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, which opened its doors in 1969. At this time, Montgomery was one of the most active coffee communities in Illinois. Many different types of coffee were offered at The Coffee House including French press, Roastery Blend, Black & Tan/Peak Organic Ethiopian Koffee, and Blends Workshop (a blend that featured Honduras and Colombia beans). These different blends were sampled by customers and tested on site before being put into production. This allowed for careful selection of quality beans which gave each cafe its own unique flavor profile

In 1867, Charles B. Shively opened the first coffee shop in Montgomery, Illinois. The shop was located on State Street and served coffee until 1903. In 1916, the first Jello factory was opened in Montgomery and it became one of the leading coffee production centers in the Midwest.
Montgomery is a census-designated place in Macon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 998 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Quad Cities Metropolitan Area.

In 1795, Dutch traders discovered Java (then Indonesia) and began trading coffee with the locals. Java was a very diverse place at that time, and not all of the local plants grew well. One man, named Cornelis de Vlijmen, started growing coffee in what is now Jakarta. He brought back a lot of different plants and trees to Holland to help him grow coffee.
In 1825, Dutchman Hendrik Brouwer founded the Company Nieuw Amsterdam Coffee Roasters in Amsterdam. This company became one of the most influential in world coffee production because it developed roast methods that allowed for larger cups of quality espresso than ever before. In 1898, Italian immigrants Giovanni Negri and Antonio Frattini founded La Caffè delle nostre case (The Coffee House on our Cases) in Rome which became one of the most famous cafes in Europe for its café-style drinks and delicious pastries.
After World War II, increased automation led to decreased production worldwide for many companies including Nieuw Amsterdam Coffee Roasters Ltd., which merged with Peet’s Coffee Incorporated on October 1st 1986 to form Keurig Drinker Corporation Limited (KDCL). KDCL continues to produce high-quality single origin coffees under two brand names: Keurig Classic & Single Serve.
