The Montgomery Army National Guard was mobilized on December 15, 1941 and activated on January 3, 1942. The regiment was organized into two battalions with a total of 196 soldiers. The first battalion arrived in Camp Yates in Illinois on February 1, 1942 and the second battalion arrived at their new position at Fort Snelling on March 2. Despite the small size of the regiment, it quickly became embroiled in combat during World War II. The battalion fought in campaigns against the Japanese at Iwo Jima and Okinawa; against German forces at Hannover; and against Italian troops near Cassino. In all, the unit participated in over 50 engagements and lost a total of 18 soldiers killed or mortally wounded. On October 9, 1945, units of the Montgomery Army National Guard were consolidated into one brigade under command of Major General Hosea Mudgett to form an all-black Brigade Combat Team known as "The acknowledges". This action marked another significant milestone for black service members within the United States military during World War II. Today, theseunits continue to serve alongside their white counterparts throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. In addition to its role as a operational support brigade for United States forces abroad,the brigade also provided training for Iraq's Kurdish Peshmerga fighters who would later become involved in assistance operations leading up to Saddam Hussein's ouster from power in 2003. In 2006-2007 elements of Brigade Combat Team "The acknowledgments" traveled to Afghanistan where they served as trainers for Afghan Security Forces units engaged in counterterrorism operations. Additionally since its inception through 2007 BGTC has traveled to Spain multiple times providing humanitarian relief following natural disasters such as hurricanes Katrina and Rita while also conducting offensive training with Spanish forces 1st Battalion (Montgomery) Infantry Regiment history: Both battalions were activation on January 3rd 1942 when Montgomery ARNG was mobilized along with other state militias across America starting WW2 due to Japanese Occupation Tax Rebellion mobilization program which lasted until November 30th 1941 . Korean War veteran Rene Sowers who had served with Company KIA’s during WWII before being honorably discharged returned home after his honorable discharge from military service by then Governor Edgar DeGroot on May 14th 1951 . He immediately joined Militia unit called “Montgomery County Riflemen” which he commanded from July 1951 until November 1954 when he resigned due to ill health also now serving as Commandant Orderly Sergeant major (COSM) US Military Academy at West Point 1968-1969 while attending UAB… First Lieutenant Clarence Berryhill transferred from Company I 5th Airborne Division arriving here Dec 1957... Captain Cecil Willis who had been commanding company C 10th Mountain Division Air Cav arrived here Dec 1958 followed by First Lieutenant Emory Roberts Oct 1959 both eventually promoted captain.. Captain Willis is buried here next to First Lieutenant Roberts while Second lieutenant Alvin Trotter is buried worldwide next to his father Reginald Trotter Jr.. Montgomery was founded by Welsh immigrants who arrived during the early 1800s. One account reports that they named their new town after General James Montgomery who helped lead Union forces during the American Civil War on behalf of the Confederate States of America. Today's Montgomery started as an agricultural community with small-scale production until railroad development arrived in the late 1860s and 1870s which changed everything for residents including creating new employment opportunities outside of farming and ranching industries The first school in what would become Montgomery opened its doors on February 14th, 1871 at Tenth Street & Randolph Avenue. It was called “Montgomery’s School House” and served as a daycare for local farmers until 1915 when it became known as “Montgomery High School” after opening its doors to students from all over Cook County In addition to providing education for locals and serving as a social center for businesses located along Randolph Avenue during this time period there were also several churches located within walking distance or just minutes away such as First Baptist Church (now steps away), Methodist Episcopal Church (now across Randolph), Sacred Heart Catholic Church (just east off Randolph) and many more During World War I both young men from nearby Joliet Heights enlisted into military service in order to support their friends back home while their parents attended college or worked full time; some did not return home until later in life In 1919 African Americans working at various whiteowned businesses near downtown began boycotting white goods because they didn't feel free enough to ask questions about job qualifications or hours without fear of being fired . Montgomery was a small town located in Montgomery County, Illinois, United States. The population of Montgomery at the 2010 census was 514. It has been lost to time and development, but some evidence remains that Montgomery may have been founded by Welsh immigrants in the 18th century. The first mention of Montgomery is from 1812 when Captain John Loyd traveled through the area on his way to visit the falls of St. Mary’s River. He noted "a small village situated on a high bank about four miles from this place, whence it [the river] flows into Lake Michigan." In 1827, Captain John Sibley discovered coal near what is now known as Mount Vernon and decided to establish a post there for the purposes of haulage and storage. After developing an assay office and store, he named his new post Mount Vernon after President George Washington's home state. In 1840, surveyors surveyed part of present-day Montgomery County and named it Rockford Township because they thought it would be more pleasant to live in than Dunham or Montrose townships which they had surveyed earlier in the year. The name stuck and Montgomery became one of Rockford's most popular localities until it disappeared completely from map existence around 1870 due to growing industrialization within the county seat region. When Rockford Township was disbanded in 1870, its land went with it - all that remained were some several hundred acres around what is today known as downtown Rockford (northwest corner of State Street and Elm Street). This parcel later became part of what is now known as Montrose Park which developed mainly due to its convenient location adjacent to then-Rockford University campus across State Street from downtown Rockford (now Elm Street).
