The river runs through Moline's core and several downtown streets run parallel to it (including Riverside Drive), but most of what makes up town limits is rural countryside that surrounds some small villages such as Elgin Heights and Arlington Heights within town limits but does not include downtown or any waterways (the only exception being Elmwood Avenue which borders Green Bay). Moline's economy depends on agriculture, manufacturing, services and transportation; many jobs are provided by large companies based out-of-town or inside Chicago that use local resources like soil fertility products from farms near town for their production plants outside of town; however there continue to be some businesses starting up specifically around transportation due to its close proximity to I-94/I-635

Moline is a town in Porter County, Illinois, United States. The population was 10,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Porter County. The Moline metropolitan area has a population of 21,036 as of 2018. The first permanent settler in what is now Moline was Nicholas Haddock who arrived in 1824 and named his new land "Moline." The first post office called Moline was established in 1827, and the first store opened in 1830. By 1840, Moline had a school and two stores. A sawmill was built on the river by John Pusch in 1851 to help with lumber needs for the expanding city of Chicago; it closed around 1870. A fire destroyed most of downtown Moline on May 26, 1888; however, efforts to rebuild continued until 1893 when steel mills began operation along the north side of the river and other businesses moved into downtown Moline from outlying areas including parts of northwest Illinois which were annexed into Porter County during that time period. On November 3rd 1865 Union General David Hunter died while leading an attack against Confederate General Robert Ewell's forces near Carbondale; this event helped spur Ulysses S Grant's strategy for Overland Campaign which culminated with battle at Pea Ridge on April 6th 1865. In 1870-71 Porter County became racially integrated when African Americans were given voting rights following passage of the National Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). This event also helped contribute to increased industrialization throughout northwestern Illinois during that time period as white farmers turned their attention to production within newly emerging cities such as Chicago and Milwaukee while black laborers were sent away to work on farms or in mines outside their home states. In 1910 JF Lasker donated capital stock for construction of Northwestern University which would become one of America's largest universities; today Northwestern University ranks third among Ivy League Universities with over 50 colleges and departments covering more than 160 majors across ten faculties providing undergraduate education at nearly 200 campuses worldwide located in 28 countries with satellite campuses located in Mexico City and Tokyo
