Moline is an unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located on the east side of the village of Moline and is served by the Moline School District. The population was 12,408 at the 2010 census. The area that now comprises Moline was first settled by French colonists in 1774. A post office called "Monterey" was established in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1901. In 1881, a group of settlers from Decatur Township formed the Town of Moline and began to build a town square on what is now Main Street. They named their new town after General Anthony Wayne (1763-1848), who had fought for America during the War of 1812 and then served as Governor of Michigan from 1815 to 1818. In 1901, part of Decatur Township became part of Moline while another part became part of Rockford Township. As a result, since there were two villages within one township – one with its own Post Office and one with service from Rockford – Moline had two mayors beginning with Mayor John Cavanaugh (1901-1904). In 1924, the University Settlement Company organized a farm colony at West Side Prairie near what is now Wright State University before selling it to the school district for development into an educational center which would grow into today's Hennepin County Schools campus. That same year saw also when property on what is now South First Street was donated by Mrs. Anna Kappelmeyer to be used as a public park which would later become home to Northwestern Illinois University/Hennepin County College campus has been developed into today's Riverfront Park portion of Dowling Park neighborhood developers are still developing

Moline, Illinois is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of Cook County. The population was 753 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Cook County after Chicago. Moline is home to Northwestern University and the Illini football team, which plays in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). The first mention of Moline as a town or village was on October 15, 1836, when John Slingerland and his brother James recorded an entry in their journal about surveying some land for a new trading post on the Kankakee River. By 1800, there were over 100 people living in what would become Moline. In 1820s, there were three small stores and one blacksmith shop near what is now downtown Moline. A post office was founded in 1827 with Samuel Morse as its first director; however, it closed within six months due to lack of subscribers. In 1830 John Lennon married Mary McCartney outside of London's Anglican church service—the first time two Beatles had performed together onstage. The couple moved to Germany where they had two children before moving back to England in 1934 so that McCartney could get her medical degree from Liverpool Polytechnic School of Medicine. They divorced nine years later and returned to America where they lived until their death in 2000. When America entered World War II, Moline became an important manufacturing center due to its heavy production of munitions such as planes and tanks; nevertheless, much industry shut down during war because wartime restrictions made it difficult for companies to produce products without raising prices or forcing workers off payrolls . After hostilities ended in 1945, many factories closed but those that did not close faced competition from newly opened companies such as GMP (now known as General Motors), Ford Motor Company (now Acura) and Chrysler Corporation (now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles). Moline became an official city on March 5th 1959 when Mayor Herman Daly announced that 8500 residents would be added to the existing municipality limits once construction began on a new courthouse/city hall complex adjacent to Washington Park Drive North; this addition increased total population by 10%. On November 30th 1960 local voters passed a referendum allowing incorporation into the City of Chicago with 2/3rds vote necessary for approval The Comprehensive Plan for Economic Development prepared by consultants Ernst & Young identified Moline’s potential for growth through both services economy development including retailmigrationand professional services while also encouraging industrial development including light manufacturing capabilities needed for export markets . The Comprehensive Plan called for developing transportation infrastructure improvements including extending I-90 eastward parallel with Wabash Street providing access from Interstate Highway 69 thereby eliminating traffic congestion on busy arterial streets ; increasing passenger rail capacity along I-55 southbound from Harrisonville Road westward into Chicagoland ; constructing additional expressways connecting Midwestern cities with Chicago ; initiating plans for housing developments throughout downtown area . This plan led eventuallyto passage by city council amending zoning regulations authorizing 20 acres of parkland at Washington Park Drive North which will become AmeriCorps Park

The town was named for John Moline, an early settler who donated land to the company. By 1860, Moline had a population of about 900 people. In 1871, Moline became the seat of county government for Cook County. In 1904, it became part of the city of Chicago.
