Navy gift history in Mokena, Illinois begins with World War II and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. The USS Missouri was sunk by a Japan-ordered air raid in 1942, which left many military personnel and civilians stranded on the island. A group of local men, led by Harry Emmons, began to build a small airstrip and ferry people back and forth between the mainland United States and Honolulu. This helped keep Hawaii open during World War II, as well as providing food for the troops stationed there. In 1946, Navy Rear Admiral James P. Halsey became Commanding Officer of Naval Forces Western Pacific Area. He wanted to improve naval forces in that area of the world, so he decided to start building a navy base in Mokena. The first shipyard construction project at Mokena started in 1948 and ended just two years later due to financial problems. However, this didn't stop Halsey from continuing his plans for the navy base; he even built a new shipyard at Kiawah Island in 1951 while still commandant of Naval Forces Western Pacific Area. In 1957, Admiral Halsey moved his headquarters from Pearl Harbor to Mokena after it was reassigned from Hawaiian Islands Command to Central Pacific Fleet Headquarters under then-Chief of Naval Operations Adm John Jellicoe. The first ships launched from Makena's new shipyard were patrol boats called PTAs (Public Matching Allocations). They were built for coastal defense but proved themselves useful against enemy submarines because they could shoot down any submarine that got too close without getting caught up in its torpedoes or bombsights.PTAs served until 1969 when they were replaced by destroyers called DDG-51s (Destroyer Development Group 51).DDGs served until 2006 when they were replaced by Type 038 frigates known as "Frigate Carl Vinson". They are currently being replaced with Type 010 frigates known as "Hogo"
Mokena is a small town in central Illinois, United States. The population was 7,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Peoria, Illinois metropolitan area. Mokena is located on the east side of the Mississippi River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa). The first Europeans to visit Mokena were French traders in 1673–74. The town was founded by General Anthony Wayne in 1837 as a crossing point for wagon trains travelling westward from St. Louis. In 1846, Mokena became an incorporated village when most of Clinton Township was annexed by Mokena. In 1860, after Abraham Lincoln's election as President of the United States and his inauguration as Vice President, Mokena residents formed a "Lincoln Men's Society" to promote political reform within the U.S., which later became known as the Lincoln Democratic Club. In 1865, Indian Wars occurred in central Illinois; many men from Makena enlisted in local units and fought against Native Americans near present-day Springfield. As a result of these experiences, many mokeeni developed strong ties to their native country and adopted traditional Sioux ways of life.. On July 4th 1861 John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln while he was attending a public meeting at Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C.. After this assassination attempt on American president one hundred years ago today (July 4th), Booth’s accomplice James Jealousy(1849-1935) helped rename Ford’s theatre “John Wilkes Booth National Monument” to commemorate that event and all others related to history associated with Marylander John Wilkes Booth Sr., alias Edwin Booth (1844-1912). The building now houses several museums including the American History Museum and also contains replica cells used during interrogations at Quantico Naval Academy where Oswald met Marina Oswald before his Dallas shooting spree on November 22nd 1963…. Today there are numerous businesses located around Ford’s Theatre complex that continue to generate revenue year round….. A new exhibit about this event is open every week at what used to be called “The Public Library Of America – One Fifth Street location” next door inside The White House Complex…. That old brick building still stands!

Mokena is a city in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,883 at the 2010 census. Mokena is the second largest city in DuPage County after Wheaton. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European American settler in what is now Mokena was German immigrant Johann Georg Kuhnemann who arrived on July 14, 1827. A small community of Germans called Heitersheim developed around Kuhnemann's farmstead and post office (later renamed Heitersheim). In 1831, Samuel Butterfield discovered a salt mine near Mokena and began to explore its potential as a place to found a new town. He recommended that Heitersheim be designated the site for Mokena, but no action was taken until 1835 when Joshua Frye donated land for the town's founding and named it after himself, Joshua Frye Township. Frye had been born in Germany and immigrated to America with his family in 1793. When he became proprietor of the land which would later become Mokena Township, he decided to name it after some nearby villages which he considered his ancestral homes: Hirschfeld (now Orland Park), Kalkaska (now Lombard), Hermsdorf (now Elmhurst), and Plattsburgh (now Westchester). However, because these villages were not incorporated into Mokena until 1881–82 they are not included within its history as much as other settlements that have been located there such as Cookstown or Hermitage Woods. In 1836, David Brown organized farmers from Illinois' central counties into two districts for voting purposes – one for Cook County and one for DuPage County – so that more people could participate in local elections without having to leave their homes just for those elections. This system continued to be used until Nixonvilles were established throughout Illinois during the late 19th century due largely to political cartoonist Tom Paine's efforts during this time period known as Theenaskalismus or "the white man's way." As early as 1840 nominations were being accepted from delegates at state conventions held at Quincy rather than from individuals who lived within their wards; this practice ended when ward meetings became an integral part of state government under Republican rule beginning in 1850s.) This arrangement helped ensure that every elector had an equal say at election times across all of Cook County while ensuring that party loyalty resided primarily with county-level officials rather than among individual residents outside their home districts who might choose different candidates should they feel they lacked representation within their home district or if they disagreed with party positions held by their elected officials. An interesting footnote about this years' gubernatorial election - Abraham Lincoln won both DeKalb and Kane Counties despite losing nearly half his total vote statewide - may be related to howDu Page voters responded differently than others due primarily to Lincoln's personal popularity within these counties given his long record of service thereto before becoming President four years later! A few weeks ago I made my pilgrimage back through my old stomping ground...I walked along Prospect Road between Walnut Creek Rd./Lake Forest Rd./Plymouth Rd./Neenah Dr., past Mercurius Dr./Ridgecrest Dr., up Old State Hwy 506 towards Sheboygan & over US Rte 10 east past Star Lake towards Chicago proper! All told I covered about 11 miles including 3 side trips! So today’s walk netted me another 2 hours outdoors instead of 1 ½ hours inside work...There’s only so much you can do daydreaming while behind closed doors
