Minooka is a small town in Hancock County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,511 at the 2010 census. Minooka is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Minooka was James Wiscioch who arrived in 1837. In 1841, John Coyle and his family settled in the community after traveling from Canada. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Des Plaines River and called it "Coyle's Point". In 1854, George Sperry came to Minooka from Illinois and established a post office there. He named it Sperryville after himself and his brother-in-law Daniel Sperry from Boston, Massachusetts. In 1870, J.S. Denton acquired land near present-day Minooka for $3 per acre (0·90 pence per sq kilometer). He erected a two-story blacksmith shop and began to trade with local farmers and consumers. By 1872, he had added an grocery store to his business operations which became known as "Denton's", later renamed "Dentons". A post office called "Milwaukee" was established at Minooka in 1874 by mail carrier Jens Jensen with assistance from Amos Kendall of Milwaukee; it remained open until 1915 when it was moved to Quincy north of town on state Highway 56 where it remains today as ZIP code 60401 (). A school was also established at this time but closed within one year due to lack of enrollment; however another school opened nearby in 1888 which still operates today as the High School for Southwestern Illinois (). The earliest resident physician practicing at MinOOKA was Drs Samuel Pemberton & John Hadden who operated an dispensary from their home until 1906 when they sold their practice to Drs John Gorman & Israel Goldstein (). In 1911 Drs Harry Fearing & Herbert Morrison opened an Obstetrical Clinic adjacent to High School which became known as "Morrison Health Center" () before being folded into Northwestern Memorial Hospital () in 1998. On July 1st 1907 residents voted 3 times (by secret ballot) not to annex into neighboring Rockford because they felt that Rockford should have been given more attention by the government – this decision effectively nullified any annexation attempt by MinOOKA.“Minnooky: A History of minnowtown” AsRockford annexed onto neighboring cities such as Evanston Township (1966), Oak Park Township (1978), LaPorte Heights Township (1991), Crystal Lake Township (2002), all without ever receiving unanimous approval from residents.

On November 15th 1909 voters approved annexation into neighboring Rockford via referendum even though no formal annexation deed had been issued! Minooka was a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States before the early 20th century. It is now part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1839 by Danish immigrants who settled on a tract of land west of Chicago. The first Methodist Church in Minooka was built in 1840. A school and post office were established there soon after. The first store opened in 1851, and the first doctor arrived in 1854. In 1860, Minooka had five residents and two businesses. In 1865, MinOOKA COLLIERIES & STORE became MINOOKA COOPERATIVE grocery store with a location at 5th St Clair Ave & Wabash Rd near Harper's Ferry Road (now Ogden Rd). This establishment played an important role in the development of cooperatives throughout the Midwest during the 1860s and 1870s because it offered customers competitive prices for goods from various suppliers not available from other local stores. There have been at least 10 Cooperatives operated by Minooka residents since 1865- most notably Pecora's Coal Merchants Cooperative which operates as a Museum today. The population of Minooka began to decline after World War II due to both competition from neighboring towns and changes within Cook County itself that led to more jobs for people outside of Minooka itself rather than inside it. However, over time some new businesses have started up around town such as an ice cream parlor and butterfly garden located on Garry Dr., along with several restaurants including Joe's Place BBQ (opened 1976), Joes Pizza (1974), Blue Moon Tavern (1978), and Wild Bill's Barbecue (1984). Today, there are still few businesses left downtown while most residents commute out to work or live elsewhere within the city limits; however, minooka has made some significant advancements over its years including becoming one of only a handful IL communities to be designated as a " Community Development Block Grant recipient" under Governor Pat Quinn’s “Buddy South Side” initiative – meaning that all elected officials are required to take part in creating economic opportunities for their constituents through investments like this - something many rural areas have yet to receive!

In 1847, a group of businessmen and farmers west of Chicago founded the town of Minooka on the banks of the Illinois River. The townsite was originally called "Kankakee" because its founders were from that community in Kankakee County, Illinois. In 1857, the name was changed to "Minooka" after President James K.
