Midlothian, Illinois is a city in and the county seat of McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,715 at the 2010 census. Midlothian is located in the Chicago metropolitan area. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet Combined Statistical Area. Midlothian has been dubbed "The City of Progress" for its role in creating new businesses and inventions during the post-World War II era. The city also boasts one of the most diverse populations in Illinois with residents from all over America and Europe. Midlothian's rich history includes several historically significant events such as the Battle of Gettysburg which took place near Midlothian on July 4th 1863; or when Abraham Lincoln delivered his speech at McCormick Place in 1858 which helped solidify his status as an American president. Midlothian first emerged as a town on December 12, 1836 when three men named John Matteson, James McNeely and George Aiken organized themselves into a town corporation under the name "Midland." On November 9, 1840 they changed their name to "Midland" after selling land to John Wacker who had donated it to them for that purpose. In 1853 they incorporated as a village under state law but reverted back to their original name upon becoming an incorporated city on January 1, 1957. Midlothian's rich history does not stop there though; it also features some famous residents such as former Mayor Richard Mauer who died in office after serving two terms and Dr Evil from interdimensional travel along with other notable personalities that have passed through our town including actors Dean Stockwell and Carroll Baker

Midlothian, Illinois is a small town located in McLean County, Illinois. It was founded in 1857 by John Midlothian and his wife Clarissa. The Town of Midlothian was chartered on December 2, 1857. Midlothian had a population of only 350 people when it was founded. By 1860, the population had increased to 1,000 people and by 1870 it had grown to 2,500 people. In 1871, the town voted to become an independent community and it became known as Midlothian Township. The first store opened in Midlothian in 1871 and the first school opened in 1880. The cotton industry declined after World War I but MIDLOTHIAN persisted with its own municipally-owned bank until 1919 when it merged into the First National Bank of Springfield. After the merger, MIDLOTHIAN lost its independence but still retains some autonomy such as having its own fire department and zoning regulations which are still used today
