In 1984, the store was moved to its current location on Illinois Avenue. In 1990, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf became the first cafe in Chicago to offer percolator coffee. At that time, it was also the only gourmet coffee shop in the city. Since then, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has been home to a number of other famous brands including Peet's Coffee and Cuppa Joe. In 2018, the store closed its doors for good but reopened under new ownership with a new name - Peddle House Coffee Roasters.
Melrose Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 86,521 as of the 2010 census. It is the tenth most populous city in Chicago and the third most populous in Illinois. With a total area of 1,815 square miles (3,711 km2), it is also one of the largest cities in Illinois by land area. The name " Melrose Park" originated from two small villages that grew up around it: Marshfield and Westmont. The two villages amalgamated to form Melrose Park on February 14, 1867. The name "Melrose" derived from an Englischer phrase meaning "a beautiful grove." The first settler to arrive in what would become Melrose Park was Captain George Waring who came overland from Springfield on November 15, 1844. He established a ferry service between Marshfield and Westmont which he called the Waring Ferry Company. Waring's home at 7th Street and Kedzie Avenue still stands today as a preserved historical landmark known as Captain George's House. In 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman's army passed through this area during their march across Illinois leading to his famous speech at Fort Dearborn where he announced his plans for reconstruction following the American Civil War; specifically targeting black Americans living east of Chicago including those living in what would become Melrose Park. This event helped spur development within what would become Melrose Park with many white farmers moving into the area to exploit new farmland while African Americans were pushed out intotilted neighborhoods such as Pulaski Heights or North Side which later became areas like Bronzeville or Lawndale

It was here that General John Fenton founded his estate in 1811. He is credited with being the first American to settle in what is now Illinois. One of the most famous residents of Melrose Park was Abraham Lincoln, who grew up here and attended school nearby. Lincoln later served as President of the United States and played a major role in developing America’s political system. In addition, many famous people have lived or worked in Melrose Park over the years, including Harry Truman, Eleanor Roosevelt, Babe Ruth, Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Hanks and more.
Until 1871, the land around Melrose Park was part of what is now Cook County. The area was first settled by the Potawatomi Indians in the early 1800s. In 1871, a group of Illinois businessmen bought 1,500 acres of land north of Chicago for $10 per acre. The men named their new town "Melrose Park." After years of growth and development, Melrose Park became a major city in its own right and still retains some of its rural character today.
