National Guard gifts have been a part of the history of Mchenry, Illinois for over 80 years. The first National Guard unit in the town was organized on October 15, 1903. It was the 2nd Regiment, United States Infantry. The regiment served in World War I and World War II before being disbanded in 1949. The 2nd Regiment’s record as a gift to Mchenry can be traced back to October 15, 1903 when it was constituted as the “2d Battalion, United States Infantry” at Fort Sheridan near Chicago. The battalion served with distinction during World War I and World War II before being disbanded in 1949. In 1954, Mayor George Wirth established the “George Wirth Civic Center” which housed a Drill Hall and an Armory were donated by Mrs. John Ayer of Topeka, Kansas along with $10,000 in capital money from various sources includingenvelopes sent by President Franklin D Roosevelt. This donation helped establish Mchenry as an important center for military and civil defense activities within the community. In 1961 another donation from Mrs. Ayer brought about construction of a new Armory which is still standing today complete with all its original equipment including artillery pieces dating back to 1881! The National Guard Armory has been instrumental in providing armories for local law enforcement agencies since it opened its doors! In addition to its role as a civic center and military museum, the National Guard Armory also houses a variety of exhibits commemorating local history including items from the Battle of Gettysburg! Today, Mchenry is home to two full-time National Guards units – one serving at Fort Sheridan and one stationed at Harrisonburg Barracks adjacent to Interstate 65! These units provide essential services throughoutmchenryandthe surrounding communities!

They found what they were looking for when they discovered a tract of land that had been purchased by John H. Mchenry. This land was located in present-day Mchenry, Illinois. The first people to live on this land were John Fenton and his family. From these early settlers, the town of Mchenry was founded. John H.Mchenry started farming on this land in 1847. He became an important figure in the history of Mchenry because he donated all of the money that was needed to build the school and courthouse square. He also helped fund other projects, such as building a military fortification on his property in 1851. After John H.Mchenry died in 1888, his son, James M., took over running the farm operations on behalf of his father’s estate. James M., who was also known as Jumbo, ran the farm until he died in 1951. Jumbo is considered one of America’s most influential farmers because he made changes to how agriculture was done in Illinois during his time period. Today, Jumbo’s name is still remembered throughout Illinois because of all of the good that he has done for society and potatoes are still one of the state’s favorite crops!

This change in brigade organization helped increase cohesion within regiments which would later serve in tours in Vietnam. The National Guard has played an important role in times of peace and war throughout its history. It is now one of America’s most popular armed forces with over 150 million active duty members across all 50 states plus Washington D.C.. The Militia Component provides low-cost training for state militias while also providingunits available for national service should there be a need to respond directly to events or emergencies anywhere in America without regard to state boundaries. serving alongside law enforcement agencies including FBI and local sheriffs departments allows members of the militia component access to military hardware which can be beneficial during crisis situations such as Hurricanes Katrina or Sandy relief efforts across America’s coastslines!
