His son, George Hennessey, served as a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. His grandson, John Hennessey III, is a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and also serves as an advisor to the Commander-in-Chief of all American forces overseas. Mchenry, Illinois is a small town located in the southern part of the United States. The population was 1,838 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Bloomington-Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. The oldest residents in Mchenry date back to 1837 when William H. McNary and his wife came from Maryland and settled on a farm near present day Carbondale, Illinois. In 1850, John McNary moved here with his family from Kentucky and founded the village of Carbondale on the banks of the Kankakee River. In 1857, James Fenton purchased land in what is now Mchenry from John McNary and named it after his father-in-law, General James Fenton. In 1870, George Fish set up a blacksmith shop in what is now Mchenry Village Square and soon developed into a popular stop for travelers on their way to or from St Louis County. The first post office was established here in 1871 by Jno Ewing Landis with the name "Carbondale." The community became an important coalmining center during the early years of this century due to its location on coal beds that were rich in sulfur dioxide gas (SO 2 ). This gas was used as an insulation material for buildings during these years and helped make Carbondale one of America's most prosperous towns during this time period. In 1901, local citizens erected a large stone plaque honoring Samuel Morse which can still be seen today outside Ofice #2 on Main Street. This plaque commemorates Samuel Morse's efforts to build America's first telegraph line through Illinois between Peoria and Alton - an event that has been celebrated annually by local students at carbondale high school since 1911! In 1905, local citizens replaced their pioneer Congregational Church with Cook Academy – one of America’s first girls’ schools – whose cornerstone was laid by President Theodore Roosevelt on October 12th that same year! At this time, Mchenry had become known as “the Alma Mater Settlement” because so many OFSTED students had been drawn here to continue their education while working menstruate! This development marked an important change for Mchenyria as it began becoming more diverse as people started choosing to live here instead of remaining within villages or townships where they may have felt unsupported or second classed. By 1912 there were over 100 residents living inmchensry alone! Today much like then Mchenyria boasts many businesses such as restaurants including Pappas Bros., Joe's Pizza & Pasta (formerly Red Robin), Burger King & Wendy's; several churches including First Baptist Church (now Grace Chapel), Methodist Episcopal Church (now Evangelical Lutheran) & United Methodist Church; 3 hospitals including Advocate Christ Medical Center - one operated by Northwestern Memorial Hospital Group - Aurora Regional Medical Center - & Rush University Medical School; over 50 residences totaling over 175 acres; 12 golf courses including Messiah Country Club ( Links Open Golf Course ), Chicago Parkland Clubhouse course(one also available for use by amateurs only), 24 hour convenience store/gas station - Embassy Suites Hotel -- all complimenting each other forming one big community hub scene right downtown!!!

Mchenry is a small town in McHenry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 476 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name is derived from "michael" meaning "God's gift." The first people to live in what is now Mchenry were Native Americans. They hunted and gathered around the remains of an old Indian village which was located on the banks of the Chicago River. In 1827, John Pemberton and his party explored this area and discovered a large tract of land near present-day Mchenry; they named it Prairie du Chien. The first settler in Mchenry was James Hickey, who arrived in 1836. He built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. This early community prospered because there were few transportation options available for settlers in that time period. Hickey became involved with politics and served as mayor of Prairie du Chien from 1847 until 1850. He also served as justice of the peace for many years. In 1840, John Brown moved from Kentucky to Macon County, Illinois to join his brother-in-law Isaac Niles and start a new life northwest of Prairie du Chien under the guidance of Captain Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865). After spending several months exploring this area he decided that Prairie du Chien would be his permanent home and began building himself a farmstead on Cemetery Road about twelve miles east of Prairie du Chien (later renamed Illinois Route 6). Brownsville was soon established as one of America's largest villages with over 1,000 residents when it was platted by Edward Ladd in 1851 after purchase from Niles for $1,200 cash plus twenty acres (8 hectares) worth of wooded land..Ladd named his settlement after General David Dixon's brigade that had fought during President Polk's successful effort to retake Texas from Mexico during its Mexican war campaign (1846 -48). A post office called Brownsville opened in 1851; it continued operation until 18811 when it changed its name to McHenry City because Postmaster General Samuel Colt assigned George Washington Burnett Jr.(1793 -1860) to serve as Deputy Postmaster General under Amos Kendall(1800 - 1863). By 1870 Brownsville had dropped all but two letters from its original name: Brownstown due to lackadaisical mail carriers trying to deliver messages using only four letters instead of five while traveling between Carbondale and Danville; Dayton became too populous so they abandoned all attempts at making communication viable within their limits! In 1881 Robert Wessels purchased 3/4 acre (2 ha) northside lot belonging to Daniel Fitzpatrick for $5 000 having been impressed by Wessels' paper mill capacity claims made before Congresswoman Fannie Lou Harrison’s Subcommittee on Commerce & Labor hearing on railroad issues held at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor Hotel July 10th 1880 before 11 witnesses including Congressman Willis Mapp(D – NY), Geo Sibley(R – IL), Davenport Chatman(D – IA), Elijah Howe(Mason & Howe Streetsheet No 8)) William McKinley delivered emotional testimony denouncingrailroads picnicking here which caused Congressman Edwin Vroomanto remark: “This country has been bought by railroads!” At least one hundred people attended including membersof Congress picnic lunch where McFadden Boys grain elevator caught fire incriminating Mrs Harrison not knowing her bill would become law less than 24 hours laterAgrarian reformer Oscar De La Renta came across Warren Gee driving their horse buggy through towno visit family member living near De Witt Dam plant run by Andrew CarnegieThat same year Northern Pacific Railway extended line into town via right-of-way acquiredfrom ferrying steel piers over Chicago River
In 1859, the town of Mchenry was organized. In 1871, it became a City. On July 10, 1893, Mchenry was incorporated as a Village. The City and Village merged on January 1, 1907.
