Mchenry is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,724 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Mchenry has been home to a post office since 1868 and an agricultural fairground since 1902. The village of Mchenry was platted in 1857 by James Hickey and others as the site of a new town on the west bank of the Chicago River. However, no village formed from this land until 1862 when John Ladd established lot #2 in what is now part of Mchenry. Ladd's lots were divided into three sections and numbered 1-3; section 4 was purchased by Abram Stephenson in 1865 and became part of the present community. The first school building – also called Ladd's School – was erected here in 1868 by Mr. [John] Cavanaugh with funds provided by Nicholas Jordon, one of Chicago's incorporators during that year's incorporation proceedings (see records atacted to deeds filed December 12th 1870). In 1902, Agricultural Fairgrounds & Post Office opened on leased land east of present day First Congregational Church across from current day Daley Park Lakefront Drive; it continued operations until 1974 when it closed due to its age and lack of Attendance Record keepers tape or computerization (ARK tapes). In 2002-2004 renovation project restored many features including original Theo’s Cafe signage which had been lost over time In 2018 restoration project replaced old roofs & gutters with new metal systems resulting in more even coverage throughout structure which should improve performance over long periods

The town of Mchenry, Illinois was founded by Hugh McMahan in the early 1800s. The community was named after theMcMahan Ranch which was located in what is now Mchenry County. It was first settled by Scottish immigrants and their families who made a farmstead on the bank of the Little River. By 1819, McMahan had erected a log cabin and built an addition to his farm. The first school in Mchenry opened in 1824 and classes were held at home until 1830 when a school house was constructed. In 1836, McMahn married Margaret McNamara and together they started a family that would live in the community for many years. In 1840, he added another building to his farm which became known as theMcNamara House. When McLanahan died in 1851, his widow continued to run the farm until her death two years later. After her death, the property passed through several hands before it finally came into beingowned by Elisha Sears who purchased it from William Hinchey in 1904. With this purchase, Sears began construction on what would become one of America's most prominent churches – First Presbyterian Church of Mchenry (now First Baptist). The church was dedicated on November 2nd 1906 following its original groundbreaking ceremony conducted by Reverend John Ladd. During World War I, Second Lieutenant Harry Jankowski served as pastor of First Presbyterian Church during hostilities while stationed at Fort Snelling Barracks outside Minneapolis; he later wrote an account of his experiences titled "Church Pastor: A Chronicle Of Minnesota's Great Defense." After World War I ended and General George Sommers assumed command of all American military forces within World War II Headquarters at Fort McNally outside St Paul MN., First Presbyterian Church became available for use as a worship center once again during peacetime; however due to budgetary constraints it never reopened before its closure in 1988-89 following settlement with insurance company over damage incurred from children playing inside during services! Today, First Presbyterian Church still stands as one of America's most notable religious symbols – serving as both an important cultural resource for residents and visitors alike and also providing ample opportunity for prayer and reflection for everyone involved every day!
