The village has a post office and two banks- one with a branch in the center of town and one on the north side. Maywood was organized as a Village in 1871 and incorporation as a Township in 1879. The first school was built in 1872 and the first store opened in 1874. In 1907, it became an incorporated municipality with its own government. Maywood has since seen many changes including annexations from other townships to form new villages until it reached its current size of 10,725 residents as of 2010. The village is located on Isabella Road between Cicero Avenue and North Shore Drive east of I-88 exit 154A/149B/150A (southwest of Elmhurst). According to the 2010 census, there are 3 churches- St John's Episcopal Church, First Baptist Church, and Holy Cross Catholic Church- all used for worship services rather than retail activities such as groceries or services like water hookups that are common elsewhere within Chicago’s suburbs. There also are 2 stores - National Hardware on Cicero Avenue across from Holy Cross Catholic Church and JCPenney next door to St John’s Episcopal Church which sells gasoline station items such as gasoline cans and Gatorade bottles along with clothing sizes up to XXL; both stores were open until about 2006 when they closed due to economic problems brought about by competition from online retailers like Walmart & Sears who had opened up shop near their larger physical locations but not yet offering same level of service or prices online despite selling products similar enough to those bought at brick-and mortar stores According to officials with Great Lakes Water Authority who have surveyed residents over time some concerns have arisen around potential increases associated with development adjacent properties once construction permits become available including increased noise levels from traffic coming into or leaving townspeople living minutes away from busy I-88 ramps can no longer hear what's being said if it isn't then high pitched commercial music being played loudly outside for hours during peak hour just feet away
