After spending several months in France during 1944-1945, Fenton returned home on Omaha Beach on D-Day while Groves monitored events at home via radio wire services. Today, most of what is left of this buildings are preserved within Park Plaza Shopping Center which traces its roots back to 1907 when two-thirds of what is now Park Plaza Shopping Center was donated by Mrs. John Gorman and her husband Harry Hennison Sr.?
Maywood, Illinois is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,461 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The early history of Maywood can be traced back to 1836 when Peter and Catherine May founded the town on land that they purchased from the Reid family. At first, the town consisted of only 30 people and was named after May's parents' farm in Ontario Township (now North Aurora). In 1840, construction began on what would become the town's first schoolhouse which served as its offices until 1868. In 1859, John Prentice becamemaywood's first mayor and later served as Cook County recorder from 1865-1869 and again from 1871-1875. Maywood residents were also instrumental in helping to pass the city charter for Chicago in 1903. The community has since undergone many changes with waves of immigration having an impact on both its demographics and economy. Today, there are over 20 thousand residents living in Maywood including many who are descendants of those who settled here during earlier times. Today's economy is based largely on agriculture with a large range of crops such as corn-, soy-, cotton-, peas-and lentils., applesauce production, cheese manufacturing and other light industrial products being produced within close proximity to each other across several districts near downtown IL/WI border region

Maywood is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County. The first settler in Maywood was John McCoy who arrived on August 3, 1814. He and his wife Sarah founded the community on a tract of land that they purchased from the Winnebago Indians. They called their new town McCoyville after John's father-in-law, William McCoy. The first post office was established in Maywood on October 6, 1816 by James Eads with the name of Harper's Ferry because the original post office building had been destroyed by fire two years earlier. McCoyville experienced its earliest growth due to agricultural production which helped support local citizens during difficult times following the American Civil War (1861–1865). TheMcCoy family owned extensive farmland within Maywood limits until their death in 1865. In 1870, Abraham Lincoln visited Maywood while he was campaigning for reelection and he attended a public meeting held at McCoyville to hear complaints about high taxes levied against farmers living near Chicago; this visit led to Lincoln's famous "Butterfly Speech" which speech emphasized agriculture as an important component of America's future. During World War II many residents enlisted in military service and many businesses closed down due to rationing but when war ended some businesses reopened including Ford Motor Company which started operations back up again in 1945 In 1967 Maywood incorporated as a village with limited powers but it enjoyed rapid growth over ensuing decades culminating in full city status on January 1, 2000 . On July 14th 2009 Mayor Richard Moccia announced that all services were being withdrawn from Village Hall effective September 15th 2009 due to lack of funding however new services will be provided inside City Hall through an agreement between Mayor Moccia and Village Manager Tom Weininger
