Maywood, Illinois is a small town in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 10,176 at the 2010 census. Maywood is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located on the north side of Chicago and about 12 miles west of downtown Chicago. The first settler in what is now Maywood was Andrew Johnson in 1836. At the time it was an agricultural township with a population of just over 100 people. In 1870, Maywood became a village with a population of 1,000 residents. On November 3rd, 1924, Maywood merged into the city of Chicago as part of its annexation by the city. The name may have been inspired by nearby Mount Prospect which had previously been called "Milton" after one of its founders In 1955 Maywood's water tower caught fire and burned for two days while firefighters battled to put out another structure that also caught on fire that same year near Memorial Drive and Westchester Avenue. This building still stands today and is used as apartments for students at Northwestern University's Kendall campus

Maywood, Illinois is a small city in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kane County. The first people to live in Maywood were Native Americans who hunted and gathered food near the present-day downtown area. The first settler in what is now Maywood was John Parkhurst, who arrived in 1827. He purchased 2 acres (0.8 km²) of land from the Potawatomi Nation for $350. Parkhurst built his home on this property and named it after himself, Maywood Manor. In 1847, he married Sarah Jane Weisbach and their children began to live there permanently. In 1857, John Parkhurst sold his land to James Hickey for $1,000 cashier’s check plus interest and expenses paid by Hickey’s father-in-law Jacob Beattie. Beattie had come to America from Scotland in 1825 and had founded a business importing goods from Great Britain through Hull, England. After arriving in America he set up a store at 4th Street and State Street in Chicago where he continued selling products until his death in 1865 In 1861, when Illinois became a state, Maywood became its new county seat with Robert Ewing as its first sheriff In 1876–77 an election campaign led by Augustus Kelley resulted in the appointment of Arthur Pryor as Mayor with powers over police affairs As mayor Pryor made many improvements to local infrastructure such as paving streets and erecting bridges which are still seen today including First Avenue east of Arsenal Road . On November 3rd 1880 Pryor was reelected unanimously without opposition becoming Mayor for Life with full power over all departments subject only to impeachment or removal by majority vote of Council
Maywood, Illinois was founded in 1836 by John May and his family. The town was named after the mayapple tree that John May found near his farm. The Maywoods were a prominent local family until their death in 1865. After their deaths, their property passed through several families before it was sold to the city of Chicago in 1903.
