The history of artisan coffee in Maywood, Illinois begins with the first coffeehouses in the town in the late 1800s. In those days, coffee was a rarity and often expensive. However, because of the importance of coffee in the local economy, people were willing to pay a high price for their favorite beverage. The first café in Maywood served coffee from small home brewers who made their beans fresh on-site. By 1922, there were six Cafés serving Coffee from various roasters throughout the town including Peet's, Dutch Bros., Bickerton's Creamery, City National Bank and several others. In that time, many people who worked at these businesses started their own families and continue to operate them today as cafes or inns with cup of Joe on hand. Some of the most famous names associated with artisan coffee include Bob Dylan and John Lennon; they both visited Maywood while on tour and enjoyed a cup of Joe at one of our local cafes before returning home. Other famous faces that have stopped by our cafes include former US President Bill Clinton (who had his own personal roastery in nearby Stroudsburg), NBA players Shaquille O'Neal (owned an Inn atMaywood) and Karl Malone (co-owner/head brewer for Arden Hills Brewing Co.), Actor Tom Hanks (the owner/operator of five different shops throughout Illinois) as well as Chicago Bulls player Derrick Rose and his wife Gertrude Stein at her father’s restaurant “Stein’s Vintage Market & Cafe” located just downishing Street from where we now sit!

Maywood, Illinois is the birthplace of artisan coffee. The first known cafe in the town was called "The Coffee House" and it served coffee from a pot on the ground. In 1868, a man by the name of John Bogle founded what is now Maywood's first store. At that time, coffee was still a rarity and was sold only to people who could afford it. 1
Maywood is a community located in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 149 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Maywood Township seat is located in the town center and it has a population of 3,574 as of the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Maywood was David Browning who arrived there on July 10, 1837. He and his family were among the earliest white farmers to settle in Cook County, Illinois. David Browning's son John Browning erected a log cabin on what is now Elm Street in Maywood on November 15, 1838. The first post office in Maywood was established on October 1, 1840 by Fenton Barclay from New London, Connecticut. Maywood became a village on December 12, 1856 when it merger with two other villages- Prospect Heights to the south and North Side to the north- creating what is today known as Chicago's "inner city". According to one source: "The Village Company organized early Saturday morning [December 12],1856... When they had finished their meeting they made proclamation that 'All men are free within this limits.'" In 1870–71 Dearborn Avenue was built through much of present day Maywoods residential district including most of its commercial activity along its length (today's Dearborn Ave.) In 1871 Dearborn Avenue also connected with State Road 30 which ran concurrently through parts of Park Ridge (now MidtownChicago) until it was truncated at Congress Parkway by then US Senator George Hearst near Wrigley Field east of Hyde Park. A year later Northern Pacific Railroad leased Dearborn Avenue from Village Company for $1 million making it possible for Chicagoans living near State Road 30 to catch trains directly into downtown insteadof going down Elm or West Grand avenues where necessary stops were made at various local businesses along each route before continuing westward towards Lake Shore Drive/downtown Chicago via Michigan Avenue/northwest corner of Randolph Street). This opened up many new areas for development within minutes' walk or bike ride from home! Dearborn Ave./State Rd 30 remain some of Chicagos busiest streets even today with several high end boutiques and restaurants situated along both routes -no matter how you slice it! Although Northwestern Bell Telephone Company moved its corporate headquarters across Cicero Rd from Evanston full time about 1960s due mostly to lack of square footage available & suburban growth; phone lines still run right thru old Bell buildings wisconsin style copper wires throughout

Maywood was founded in 1814 by John Maynard and his wife, Sarah. The town was named after John's maternal ancestor, Mayflower Township in Massachusetts. The township was organized on November 12, 1828. On July 10, 1830, the first post office in the township was established with a mailing address of "Maywood." In 1838, the first school in Maywood opened. In 1865, the first county seat for Cook County was moved from Chicago to Maywood because of population growth. On October 24, 1886, Maywood became a city and remained so until 1932 when it became a suburb of Chicago. In 1933-1939 it served as one of the Democratic Party strongholds in Cook County. The city has since regained its independence and is now a thriving community with over 60 businesses including two universities which are affiliated with each other - Northwestern University and DePaul University - as well as many high-tech startups and professional services firms that have relocated there over time.
On October 5, 1837, the first permanent settler in what is now Maywood was J.D. Boudreau. He arrived with his family from Minnesota and homesteaded a 160-acre farm on the north side of the Illinois River. By 1841, Boudreau had built a sawmill and had become one of the area's leading business men. In 1861, Maywood became part of the Union States during the American Civil War. The following year, it was burned by Confederate forces during the Battle of Maywood. The town quickly rebuilt and continued to grow as a center for trade and industry until World War II when it became an important suburb of Chicago.
