The Mattoon National Guard was organized on December 15, 1847. The organization was the result of a bill introduced in the Illinois legislature by Representative John W. Schofield and signed into law by President James K. Polk on December 17. The National Guard consisted of 3 companies (the Ironbound Guards, the Prairie Dragoons, and the Western Star) and 2 field officers: 1 colonel and 1 lieutenant colonel. Each company had a garrison of 10 to 12 men under command of a captain or major. The regiment was disbanded on July 14, 1851, due to lack of enrollment or financial limitations. On November 5, 1907, Congress passed an act authorizing the establishment of national guard units at various points within the United States for service in time of war or emergency as provided for in section 8(a) of the Act known as "The National Defense Appropriations Act, 1907". On November 26th local newspapers in Chicago reported that three companies from Mattoon were ordered to join forces with other northern Illinois units under command of General Admiral order No. 4657 which directed all volunteer militia companies west of Decatur to come together at Mattoon for drill purposes only; these Companies being Company A (Mattoon), Company B (Hemlock Green), and Company C (Oak Park). These three companies were also ordered to erect additional rifle ranges east side Main Street between First Avenue South and Second Avenue South; each range having a capacity for 100 rifles per hour during wartime drills On January 16th 1908 two more companies from Mattoon traveled southward by train to Terre Haute Indiana where they joined up with General Admiral's 3rd Brigade there pending re-enrollment into state militias effective February 15th . In 1912 the Third Regiment Armory Association located at 501 West Monroe Street in Mattoon petitioned State Senator William Phelan for permission to build a new armory adjacent to their current facility which would house both military stores and artillery pieces including six guns donated by Milwaukee County Sheriff Julius Krugenthaler who served with distinction during World War I senator granted permission on April 9th 1912 construction began immediately upon receipt of permit from state authorities . Armament included four 7 inch howitzers donated by Mrs Joeseph Lasky who operated an armaments store across town at 214 North Adams Street until her death in 1951 In 1916 several hundred people participated in what is now called “Operation Overlord” while living near Danville IL – most notably members from Mattoon Community College who volunteered their time cooking food for troops stationed nearby while also providing instruction in sewing machine repair

Mattoon is a small town in Illinois, located about 30 miles east of Chicago. It was named for John Mattoon, a pioneer settler who came to the area in 1814. Mattoon was first known as a stage stop on the old native route from Quincy to St. Louis. After Illinois became a state in 1818, the town developed as an agricultural community and mill town. In 1870, it became the seat of Cass County and began to grow rapidly as a manufacturing center. By 1910, it had over 100 businesses and 2,500 residents. The great Depression hit Mattoon hard, but it bounced back with strong economic growth during World War II and afterward. In the postwar period, Mattoon experienced significant growth as an educational center with two universities—the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) and Northwestern University—and many high-tech companies such as Intel and Motorola Solutions. However, recent decades have seen some setbacks such as declines in population size and job opportunities; however, there is still considerable redevelopment potential in Mattoon thanks to its location within easy commuting distance of major metropolitan areas throughout Chicagoland.

Mattoon is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,512 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Mattoon was founded in 1837 by fur traders Daniel and David Mattoon. The Mattoons were farmers and early settlers in the area. They named their farm "Mattoon" after their father's home state of New York. The Mattoons helped to found what is now Chicago in 1847 and were among the first people to settle there. In 1850, they erected a log cabin on the site of what is now State Street near Lake Michigan. They soon became prominent citizens and support for local education and politics. In 1857, they built a larger cabin on land that later became Grant Park. Their house still stands today as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chicago; it has been used as a hotel since 1893, when it opened as the Illinois State Normal University campus buildings (now McCormick Place). In 1870, they donated land to make way for McCormick Place – which would become one of Chicagos most iconic landmarks – and also endowed Northwestern University with acres of land surrounding it for agricultural research purposes (the Illinois Agricultural Experiment Station). Today much of this property remains undeveloped; however, some portions have been turned into prestigious universities such as Brown University and Vanderbilt University. The Mattoons played an important role in helping create Chicagos political landscape during both World Wars I and II: Their son-in-law Harry S Truman served as President Harry S Truman from 1945 until his death in 1953; their daughter Rachel started working at Wrigley Field before becoming mayoralty candidate there in 1989; her husband George H Bush was Ulysses S Grant Woodlands superintendent from 1941 until his death in 1994; while many other residents are buried within city limits or within close proximity to central business districts such as Lakeview Cemetery or Navy Pier), but no individual has more fame or accolades than David Mattoon who left behind an entire community dedicated to agriculture that continues to produce high quality food today
Mattoon is a town in and the county seat of Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 31,752 at the 2010 census. Mattoon was founded on August 12, 1831 by John Mattoon and his wife Sarah. The first post office in Mattoon opened on October 7, 1836. It closed on September 26, 1861 due to the American Civil War. The Town of Mattoon was organized on October 9, 1868 from the Township of Mattoon (now Morenci). On April 20, 1897 a fire destroyed most of the downtown business district which had been around for over 30 years. On November 15th 1920 Mayor Harry Brossman made history when he became the first mayor of Chicago to address a "town meeting" outside of Chicago's City Hall; this event also marked the beginning of that city's Municipal Reform movement with Mayor Brossman being one of its early proponents. In 1927-28 Mayor John Fermi convened what later became known as "Governor's Conference" meetings at Northwestern University in Evanston which were intended to provide input into state government reform plans then under consideration by Governor Adlai Stevenson II but never materialized because no action was taken from those meetings. In 1934-35 Mayor John Daley created an urban renewal program called "Operation Iceberg," which targeted areas such as Mattoon that were considered blighted or unsafeOMPOPOLY victory!

It is made up of soldiers who have served in the military for at least three years, and are considered veterans by law. The National Guard also has civilians members who serve as guardsmen or deputies. The National Guard was originally formed as part of the Militia Act of 1792 which gave Congress power to raise an army for war with France. The Militia Act was amended in 1802 to make it a permanent militia and give it the same powers as an regular army. The National Guard first received its own individual constitution in 1865. From 1917-1945, the NationalGuard served as part of Army Reserve Forces.
