In 1881, a man named John H. Good sold his farm to the city of Markham for $2,500. The city built a school and store on the property, and it has grown ever since. Today, the city is home to over 50 businesses and restaurants, as well as more than 30 schools and Libraries.
Markham is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,897 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The town was founded by John Markham in 1836 and named for him. The first post office was established in 1837 and the first store opened in 1840. In 1851, a school was built and named after Reverend John Fenton. A Methodist church was also built and named after Reverend Fenton in 1865. In 1870, a railroad station was built and named after Reverend George Wirths. In 1899, an electric streetlight system replaced the old gaslights in the town square. A woolen mill closed down in 1909 but reopened as a clothing store two years later. A new grocery store opened on the square in 1925 and continues to be run today by its original owner/operator (Evelyn Heineman). In 1959, Markham became one of fifteen towns to join forces with neighboring Aurora to form the Chicago metropolitan area along with other cities such as Evanston, Chicago Heights, Oak Park-River Forest, Mt Prospect-Logan Square, North Elgin and Wheaton Hills within that larger region known as "The Five Towns." A new high school facility was completed in 1966 on Commercial Street just east of Interstate 95 which now houses both grade levels (K-8) as well as middle school (9-12) students from across Kane County using their own classrooms located adjacent to I-95 southbound lanes between Highways 61st Street & 63rd Street while northbound lanes are used for local traffic only.; this made it possible for more people to attend public schools closer to home without having to leave their neighborhoods or go through long drives into bigger cities like Chicago or Wheaton Hills

Markham is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Markham was John Paulding in 1836. By 1860, there were around 25 families living there. The village started off as a two-room log cabin and grew to encompass a single block on the south side of North Avenue east of Wacker Drive. In 1865, a post office was established at Markham with one mailbag per day from April 1 to September 15; it continued until 1903. In 1872, A & H Railroad built an line from Cicero to Markham; this line later became part of the Chicago Great Western Railway system. The railroad also founded a school at Markham which served gradeschoolers through high school students until 1959 when it merged into Northwestern High School District #2's Cicero-Northwest High School (now Northwestern University). The Village had its first incorporation as a village in 1875 and by 1888 it had 8 buildings including 2 churches and 4 schools with 180 pupils each grade level: 1st through 8th grades were taught by teachers’ families while 9th through 12th grades were administered by local board members who also acted as principals or headmasters for these same classes. Each building housed 30 pupils with 6 days notice for assembly into groups of 10 or more for religious services on Sundays morning and evening during term time; afternoons and weekends were used for instruction in home economics classes provided by Mrs Ellison or her daughter Annie Kapp (a teacher originally from Keokuk Iowa) afternoons during term time since most all homes then had no other use outside the house except to provide meals for their family members during school hours either day or night... On October 5th 1886, voters passed an ordinance setting up township government within the corporation limits instead of just within individual dwellings... On December 15th 1893, Township voters approved election results showing thatvillage trustees should be chosen by popular vote not by property owners who voted against them... In 1896/97 Woolsey Brothers erected new brick buildings on what is now Main Street between First and Second Avenues - this structure still stands today - they became known as "Woolsey's House" after their founder Woolsey Ransom Woolsey Sr.. From 1898 until his death in 1941 Mr Ransom Woolsey Jr., son of Mr Ransom Woolsey Sr., managed this business along with his wife Millie Jane Woolsey until their deaths also in 1941... This successful enterprise allowed Markham to enjoy some stability beginning before World War II when many small towns throughout Cook County went under federal control due primarily to Interstate Highway construction projects gangster controlled cities such asChicago saw rapid growth following World War II fueled largely by wartime demand for munitions manufacturers products such as aluminum cans
