In 1899-1900 Jens Jensen started building what would become Sears Tower which later became known as one of Chicagos most iconic landmarks; today’s skyline owes much to its predecessors! In 1954 Bob Henson established Parkways Chevrolet dealership adjacent to Bruce Ford International Airport south of town on I-55/I-290W and continues to operate today with a showroom annex adjacent to KFC restaurant across I-290W from airport on Arlington Avenue just west of Interstate 55 exit 138 (Exit 109B). This location along with north side arterial access off I-290W enabled easy car shopping for both local farmers markets (KFC market) as well as suburban shoppers who could come into town only during certain hours or during limited years such as Christmas or farmer's markets are open late November thru April making this an ideal destination for outoftown visitors looking for quality preowned vehicles without dealing with long lines typical at larger dealerships

Markham is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,593 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was organized on November 3, 1847 from parts of North Lawndale and West Side White Settlement. The name comes from the French words "mark" (meaning boundary or limit) and "ham" (a farm). The first post office opened in 1848. The first store in Markham was built by John Hickey in 1851. In 1860, Jens Jensen bought the store from Hickey and began to run it as a general store. He also built a house on land that he donated to the town for use as a courthouse. In 1865, Firestone Tire & Rubber Company donated land to Markham for an airport while they were building their plant north of town. The airport became operational in 1927 and remains active today as Markham-Southport Airport. Heinrich Wessels Elementary School was opened in 1955 and is now known as Northwestern Illinois University's(NIU) Wessels School of Education campus located within the original school building which has been used by both Northwestern IL's(NIU) teaching staff since its opening and since 2006 by NIU's sports teams when they play at US Cellular Field located just east of town off I-290 exit 179A/Old State Road 10A
Markham was founded in 1828 by Peter Markham and his brother John. The first settlers were farmers who used the land for cultivation and hunted game. In 1836, the town was incorporated and became a part of the larger village of Wheaton. In 1870, the village was renamed Markham after James Fenton, an officer in the Union army during the American Civil War. In 1932, both villages were merged into one municipality and remain that way today.
