Another aluminum plant was built here in 2002 by IUE/Alcan Corporation for production of new trucks and buses for Ford Motor Company (FORD) In 2003, United States Steel announced that it would be withdrawing its manufacturing operations frommacombsi because OFD had no plans to build any more plants in the area as part of their restructuring plan for steelmaking companies nationwide following the September 11 terrorist attacks. This left 5% of US Steel's workforce out of work and without jobs to go into during this difficult time period
