Machesney Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The city of Chicago annexed Machesney Park in 1868, making it part of the city's limits. In 1892, the city donated land to the town for a public park and playground. The first park opened to the public in 1913. In 1925, when Machesney Park became a school district, much of its land east of Pulaski Street was transferred to form North Side High School (now North Side Community College). That year also saw the opening of Machesney Park Stadium which served as home field for Illinois State University's baseball and football teams from 1925 until its closure in 1957. On May 7th, 2006 Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that Machesney Park would be one of several neighborhoods slated for redevelopment along South Holland Avenue into "the new CITY OF CHICAGO". The first phase of this project is scheduled to begin later this year with demolition and reconstruction of various street addresses within Macheney Park including: Harrison Road/Stadium Drive/Northeast corner Terminal Drive/Adams Boulevard/Wagner Boulevard. This will create an open-air shopping mall complete with office Space on top that will house over 100 stores and restaurants as well as three high-rise apartment buildings totaling 350 units

Machesney Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, located on the north side of Chicago. The town was founded by landowner John Machesney in 1847. It became a city in 1903. Machesney Park is named after John Machesney, the original settler. Machesney Park began as a part of the Town of North Lawndale. North Lawndale was laid out in 1827 and originally consisted of only four farms: Randolph, Moreland, Dearborn Heights, and West Side; all were sold to Captain George Rodgers in 1857 for $1,500. In 1840 the town had ten residents and three buildings were built: a school house (1841), an insurance office (1842), and a Presbyterian meeting house (1843). In 1847 John Machesney arrived from Vermont with his family to purchase 160 acres of land east of Chicago from Nicholas Hennepin. The Machesneys set up their farm on what is now Northwest Side Drive within minutes of each other. On October 6th, 1847 they married Margaret Fuller and moved into their first home which they called "Greenacres". Their second home, also known as "Greenacres", was erected on land that later became part of present day Northwestern Boulevard between Harrison Street and First Avenue North. The early years were difficult for the couple because John had to work hard every day while Margaret tended to the children and cultivated their farmsteads; however they persevered through these times together until her death in 1865 at age 49 years old due to tuberculosis brought on by working long hours surrounded by unappetizing food items at home which she could not resist eating because she knew it would kill her if she did not eat them then also succumb to disease). They eventually had six children: Anna May (1848-1924), Charles Lyman (January 12th 1850 –March 3rd 1912), Edwin Leland(May 22nd 1850 –August 14th 1926),John Warnock(October 15th 1852 –September 5th 1924)and Eleanor Roosevelt(November 16th 1902 -April 4teenth 1967). Anna May married James Kailer during this time frame and raised two daughters before moving away from Greenacres around 1870 when he converted to Catholicism but returned briefly about 1880-1881 when he met her mother who lived nearby before dying soon thereafter without any offspring from that marriage either. Charles Lyman married Lillie Mae Schweitzer while living near Dexter Avenue & 95TH Street where he ran a grocery store before moving back east around 1910 when he met Edith Bollingwood Harding there too subsequentlly having two children with her one being Franklin D Roosevelt Jr.(November 13th 1901 - April 4 th 1945)and Eleanor Roosevelt’s half sister Winifred Hyman Wright(February 24 th 1906 - December 10 th 1984).
