The Village of Machesney Park was annexed by the city of Chicago on March 14, 1894. Machsneys were one of the earliest pioneers to move into what is now Cook County. They arrived in 1820 from Pennsylvania and started a farm near where they live today on the east side of Chicago. In 1837, Amos and Micah moved to what is now Machesney Park after purchasing land from the government for $1 per acre (this amount has since increased to around $30 per acre). The original buildings in Machsney Park were built between 1840 and 1849 by their father-in-law Jacob Kappesfeldt, an early settler who also owned adjacent property along present day Lake Michigan Avenue. The first church constructed at Machsney Park was dedicated on September 16, 1840 by Rev Edward Everett Hale Jr., one of America's most famous evangelical pastors at that time.
