Anna Butterfield is considered to be one of Chicago's earliest women entrepreneurs and herPurchase marks the beginning of what would become known as "the butterfield belt." Anna Butterfield ran a general store on her new land until 1870 when she began selling real estate and hosting weekly meetings for residents to discuss issues important to their community. In 1881 she sold additional property south of Prospect Avenue for $30 per acre ($ Today: $/km²). This site now forms part of North Mitchell Drive which runs between Anna Butterfield Way and Northwest Side Drive near Northwestern University’s McCormick School Of Medicine campus.
