As the city of Lyons, Illinois, population around 25,000 in 1910 and growing rapidly with development in the surrounding area, it was not difficult to find places to buy coffee. However, until World War I there was no official coffee industry in Lyons. The first espresso machine had been invented by Luigi Moretti in 1892. In 1915, two Italians by the name of Alba and Pia were working at a small café called La Città Nuova in downtown Lyons. They started making their own espresso drinks and selling them from a kiosk on State Street. In 1916 they opened another café called L’Espresso Nero on the corner of Main and Michigan streets. This cafe became known as the “ birthplace of espresso” because Alba and Pia first made it famous there. The war changed all that; now businesses like La Città Nuova were closed down and all but one Italian business owner went into hiding – Antonio Negri who ran Anello Coffee Company which still operates today as an Italian-owned business located on Court Street near Elmwood Cemetery (just next door to the Lyon Park Village). With production activities stopped during World War I many Italians who wanted to stay in America decided instead to go to Italy where they could start their own businesses breeding new espresso machines for export back home (this is what happened with Giovanni Battista Nespoli who founded Nespoli Coffee company). However, Lyons wasn’t done losing its coffee leadership just yet; thanks to Luigi Moretti’s son GoffredoMoretti (1914-2000), another early Lyons entrepreneur who started White Eagle Coffee shop on University Avenue soon after La Città Nuova closed its doors for good in 1924 due primarily to Prohibition regulations which limited sales of caffeine products. After White Eagle closed he merged his father’s company with those at Anello Coffee Company forming Negri & Moretti Incorporated which continued operations until 1986 when it merged with ITT Corporation becoming part of KKR Corporation ultimately leaving Lyons behind as an isolated town once again lost its coffee legacy – something that has only been slowly restored over time through various efforts such as events like The European Cup Festival held each year at Lyon Park Village giving local residents access to international journalists and food lovers alike experiencing some of Lyons best cafes during this unique event spanning several days throughout late summer/early autumn providing an opportunity for locals and visitors alike for some amazing cupof Joe's!

The Lyons Coffee Company was founded in 1874 by Nicholas Lyon and his brother John. The company grew rapidly, becoming one of the leading coffee companies in the Midwest. In 1919, Nicholas Lyon passed away, leaving his business to his son, John Lyon Jr.
Lyons, Illinois is a small town in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. Lyons is one of two towns in Cook County that are not part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Lyons is bordered by the towns of Peoria to the east and Normal to the west. The first people who lived in Lyons were farmers who came from France around 1790. There was a post office here from 1836 until it was discontinued in 1852. The first store here was started by George Wetherbee and his brother-in-law Ebenezer Cushman on West Main Street in 1870. A flour mill opened in Lyons in 1898 and became one of the largest flour mills in America. In 1907, a telephone line was built between Lyons and Peoria; this made Lyon the first incorporated town east of Chicago without having its own telephone company! The Lyons Post Office continued to be open until it closed on July 15th, 1951 due to lack of customers! In 1922, there were only five residents living here; now there are over 1,500 residents here! The population grew rapidly during World War II with many citizens moving away for military service or joining other organizations such as the American Legion or Veterans Administration. After World War II ended, many people returned to live here but experienced rapid growth again during the 1960s through agricultural production which has continued into today despite some tough times with dips and declines throughout recent years including an annexing by Chicago about 2007 which has led to job losses for local businesses along with increase taxes making life more difficult for locals as well as tourists trying to visit these beautiful locations! Today there are several businesses run by locals such as stores like Goudreau's Hardware (closed since 2016), Café du monde (closed since 2006), Joe's Pizza (opened December 2017) and Alice's Baking Company (opened November 2018). As economic conditions improve elsewhere within Cook County things may start starting happening back home again but until then we have faith that our community will continue to grow just fine even when others around us don't!

Lyons, Illinois was founded in 1825 by John Lyons and his wife Eliza. The city was named for Lyon County, Kentucky, where John had been born in 1794. The county was organized in 1824 and the city was incorporated on December 1, 1825. At the time of its incorporation, Lyons had a population of about 500 people. It rapidly grew as a result of its location at the intersection of two important wagon roadways-the National Road and the Erie Canal-and its access to grazing land and timber resources. Over time, Lyons developed into an important transportation center serving both Illinois and Indiana. In addition to serving as a commercial center and manufacturing center, Lyons also became a political stronghold during the early 19th century due to its connections with both Democratic Party organizations and President James K. Polk’s administration. As economic conditions deteriorated in the post-Civil War era, Lyons experienced significant growth (particularly for rural communities) but declined thereafter until it reached its current size in 2000.
Lyons was founded in 1837 by Levi Lyons, a settler from Vermont. The town was named for John Lyons, a wealthy businessman and politician who served as the first Mayor of Lyons. In 1847, the town received its own post office. The Chicago and Northwestern Railroad passed through Lyons in 1853, connecting Chicago with the rest of Illinois. This stimulated development in the town, which saw an increase in population and businesses during this time. In 1865, Lyon became part of the new county of McLean, created when Illinois became a state. The county seat was moved to Peoria in 1871. In 1907, Lyons merged with nearby townships to become one municipality. The merger resulted in an increase in population and business due to increased trade within the city limits of Lyons compared to those located outside of the municipality. In 1919–1920, Lyons experienced its first tornado outbreak; all but one instance resulted in damage or loss of life.
