The town was founded in 1837 by Nicholas Giannini, a Italian immigrant who arrived in the United States aboard the brigantine USS Constitution. Giannini named his newly founded town after himself and set about building a small village near the lock on the river that would serve as its main commercial artery. The first shop in Lockport opened its doors in 1838 and quickly became one of the most popular businesses in town. It was here that Giannini began selling coffee beans direct to consumers from his roasting house on Main Street. Over time, other local entrepreneurs joined Giannini at his business and together they built what is now known as theLockport Coffee Company into one of America's largest coffee companies. Today, Lockport's cherished legacy of artisanal coffee remains very much alive and well. Lockport is a small town in the Quad Cities of Illinois, United States. The population was 3,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. In 1847, James Biddle founded what became known as the Lockport Coffee Company. The first coffee beans were brought overland from Brazil in 1851 by Wm. Hogg and his partner John Fenton. The beans were roasted on an old millrace near where the city now stands; these early roasters are credited with helping to create the taste for coffee that we enjoy today. In 1865, George Pappas opened a second coffee house in Lockport called "Pap's Place". Pappas had been born in Greece and immigrated to America in 1860 when he was just seventeen years old. He started out working at a grocery store before opening his own business five years later. Little did he know that this would be his biggest success – Pap's Place became one ofLockport's most popular tourist attractions during its time as a commerical center for goods brought overland from Europe by wagon trains on their way to Chicago and other markets north of Lake Michigan. In 1892, entrepreneur Augustus Kelley opened what is considered to be lockport’s first Starbucks store which quickly gained notoriety due to its unique design and high-quality coffee products

Lockport, Illinois (formerly Lockport, New York) is a city in the United States. It is the county seat of Cook County, and was once known as the "Crown City of the Midwest." The population was 64,564 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Lockport were French Huguenots who settled there in 1688. The town was named for Thomas Lockerbie, 2nd Viscount Raglan after a party of Scottish regulars under his command invaded Ireland and sacked that country's capital of Dublin on October 21, 1689. They then traveled downriver to new settlements at Chicago and St. Louis before finally returning home about two weeks later. It wasn't until 1812 that General James Kasky founded what would become Chicago by sailing across Lake Michigan from Fort Dearborn on the northern shore of Wind Point Peninsula with 150 soldiers aboard his flagship "Albany". lockport il had been part of Northwest Territory formed out of Indiana Territory when it was organized on January 29, 1787 pursuant to the Northwest Ordinance passed by Congress on July 8th that year. LOCKPORT, ILLINOIS - The town of Lockport was founded in 1836 by Levi Coffin and others. The first store in the town was built on the corner of Main and State Streets. In 1841, a post office was established in Lockport and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1951. In 1865, a school was built for grades one through four and remained operational until it closed in 1971. A new school building was erected in 1974 and served as the town's primary educational facility until it closed in 1984. In 1898, a waterworks system was installed to supply the needs ofLockport residents with drinking water. The waterworks were operated by the Town Water Board until they were privatized in 1987. From 1912 to 1924, Lockport had its own Ulysses S. Grant High School which is now part of nearby East Stroudsburg University.
