The Lockport Air Force Base has been a part of the US military since World War II. One of the first airfields in Illinois, it was used for training pilots and fighter planes during the war. It played an important role in the Korean War as well, being one of the few bases in Illinois that could offer combat operations. In 1965,Lockport AFB was relocated to its present location and became one of America’s most important strategic bombing points. Today, Lockport AFB is home to over 1,500 members of the United States Air Force (USAF) engaged in various roles including air defense; international support; airlift; aerial refueling; patrol and reconnaissance aircraft operations. With more than twenty-five thousand square feet of hangar space, lockport AFB offersample facilities for storage and display of USAF equipment and memorabilia from across history. One particular area which has seen a lot of activity recently is the collection for Operation Noble Eagle – an campaign launched by President Donald Trump against North Korea which saw Pyongyang launch several missiles into orbit with what US officials called “significant” damage done to them on multiple occasions. The Gift History Gallery at Lockport AFB features displays representing many aspectsof this operation including artwork donated by local artists as well as photos, videos and other artifacts from aroundthe world that were brought together during this period. In recent years there have also been displays dedicated to Operation Desert Storm – Kennedy Center Honors - along with exhibits celebrating all things related to Air National Guard contingents who took part in this conflict zone in Iraq/Syria. However, perhaps the most famous display currently located at Lockport AFB is undoubtedly The Bomber Museum – which tells the storyof individual American bombers who have taken partin warfare throughout history both before and after 9/11/2001 . This museum includes a wide varietyof Boeing 747 jets such as those used duringOperation Iraqi Freedom while also displaying various models associated with Project Skyland – an American developmental projectthat will seeMQ-4C Predators flying through treacherous airspace above Africa . As you walk through these exhibits you can feel like you are rightin front of some truly unique pieces from American aviation history!

Lockport Air Force Base is home to the 9th Bomb Wing, which was founded in 1963. The wing has a long history of providing protection and support for military installations and members of the public. In 2013, the wing played a role in Operation Neptune's Spear, which was an operation to rid Afghanistan of Taliban insurgents.
Lockport is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois, and the county seat of Cook County. The population was 71,853 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in Illinois after Chicago. It is one of two cities in Cook County (the other being Evanston). The first Europeans to visit Lockport were shipwrecked sailors on Mayflower in 1536. They named the town "Port Royal" after their colony there. The first European settlers arrived during the American Revolution, when General George Washington passed through Lockport on his way to battle British forces at Yorktown. In 1803, General Anthony Wayne founded what is now Wayne State University here. At that time, Lockport was part of a larger area known as Wabash Township which included present-day Champaign and Urbana Counties as well as most of Dodge County and much of Morehouse Parish in Louisiana. In 1847, Genesee County was created from parts of Wabash Township and Hamilton Township; Lockport became its county seat. That year saw the opening of what is now Northwestern University's main campus here; earlier schools had been located in Champaign and Urbana Counties adjacent to Wabash Township but these were consolidated with Northwestern into one campus under one roof. In 1916–17, construction began on downtown's first shopping mall; this opened several years later than planned because of World War I rationing policies imposed by then-President Woodrow Wilson's America First Committee. A new courthouse was built nearby between 1925 and 1927; this replaced an earlier building that had been destroyed by fire years earlier while undergoing expansion work for Northwestern University's main campus which then occurred across Michigan Avenue from downtown Lockport proper (now called Main Street). In 1924–25, lockers used for storing coal dusts along Michigan Avenue caught fire due to overloading from workers shoveling coal onto flatcars operated by Northern Indiana Railway Company – a event that has come to be known as "the Great Chicago Fire". As a result of this tragedy (and others associated with northern Indiana railroads), many people abandoned their homes around here for more affordable housing elsewhere during those days before zoning laws changed late in the 1920s to favor suburban development around downtowns throughout Cook County (a change codified by Arthur Ashe with his report "A Study Of Urban Land Use In Chicago"). By 1960, only 3% remained within Downtown Lockport itself while 98% developed outside its limits near Northwestern; today less than 1/10th remains within Downtown core while more than half lives outside it along diagonal streets lined with large parking garages providing easy access both inside and outside Downtown: Michigan Avenue becomes Midtown Loop Drive name-wise just past Wells Fargo Center where all residential development resumes again [note 2]. Many businesses have closed down or moved away since then including Sears until they retired midtown - now Allstate - next door back behind McDonald’s once occupied by Radio Corporation Of America whose major building still stands today across Loop drive near Masonic Temple [note 3]. Today lockports economy relies largely on services such as education, healthcare & retail although some manufacturing operations still exist including local Ford plants

Lockport was settled in 1837 by John Lockwood and his family. The town became a thriving center for manufacturing and commerce, hosting a number of businesses such as the J.L. Weller Boot Factory, the Chicago & Northwestern Railway, and the Lockport Lumber Company. In 1916, Lockport was renamed after General George Washington Carver, who helped promote its agriculture industry. In the 1970s and 1980s, the town experienced declining population levels and a decline in commercial activity. Locksport was a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lockport-Norwalk-Lakeville Micropolitan Statistical Area. Locksport was founded in 1847 by John Ladd and his family on a small island near the mouth of the Chicago River. The Ladd family built what is now the lock and dam complex on their property, which they named "The Ladd Islet". In 1875, James Fenton built a sawmill on the same site. In 1902, entrepreneur George Westinghouse opened an electric power plant here to provide electricity for Lockport's growing industry. In 1914, he donated land to build a new high school; it became known as Lockport High School after his donation. The plant closed in 1974 but portions of it are still extant today as the George Westinghouse Science Center and Engine House Museum (now known as North Side Science Museum). In 1935, steel magnate J.P Morgan invested $2 million dollars intoLockport Steel Company to open one of the first steel mills in Illinois outside Chicago; this led to lockporting becoming one of America's leading manufacturers of heavy equipment and railroad parts. The company also developed town centers around its plants throughout Illinois and Michigan; these eventually fell victim to corporate consolidation and ceased production in 2000. The engineering firm Babcock & Wilcox contracted with Lockport Shipyard Incorporated (LIS) during World War II to supply screws for naval vessels hulls; this led tolockporting becoming one of America's leading shipyards during World War II. After the war ended, Lis merged with other shipyards throughout America including Bethlehem Steel Corporation (BSC), which finally closurein2000 due to lack of competition following Americas entry into World War III Today there are few remnants remaining fromlockporting past glory such as lockside picnics held every year Labor Day Weekend that utilized local fruit trees grown along shoreline
