The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History series is an effort to document the unique and important contributions Marines have made to the community. Through this series, we hope to provide a glimpse into the lives of Marines who have served our country in various ways and locations over the years. This year's installment takes us to Lisle, Illinois where marines from Company A-3, 1st Battalion, 6th Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton were hosts for a special two day event called "Heroes & Hometowns." This event was designed as a tribute to both marines who have given their all for our country and also their hometowns. Each marine was given a gift which had profound meaning to them. Some of these gifts included: items from their unit or home place like medals or insignia, clothing or items that represented culture or history in their local area, books about military service, etc. It was amazing to see how much these marines cared about what happened back home and how much they appreciated all things related to being part of the Marine Corps. Throughout this year's deployment there has been constant communication between Camp Pendleton and Lisle thanks in part to social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. Local businesses were able to benefit from donations made by marines through eBay auctions as well as raffles hosted throughout the weeknight events at Camp Pendleton. These events allowed locals access not onlyto seemarine gear but also get connected with their favorite troops overseas. In addition, numerous local charities received donations tot he amount ranging from cleaning supplies To car parts needed for They Can Play program Back at Home galore! Overall it was an fantastic opportunity for citizens of Lisle and surrounding areas to get involved with marine life while watching some great friends serve our country!

Lisle is a small town in the central part of Illinois, United States. The population was 9,856 at the 2010 census. It is the home to Lisle Community College and most of Lisle's industry revolves around agriculture and manufacturing. However, there are also some smaller businesses that provide services such as architecture and engineering. The town has a rich history dating back to 1836 when it was founded by John Stephenson as the present-day Township of Lisle on the north side of Chicago River. The name "Lisle" comes from an old English word meaning "a meadow near a bend in the river." In 1868, Lisle became a city under new charter laws passed by the state legislature. The city had two wards with voting rights for residents who met certain qualifications: one vote for mayor, one for each of five council members; and no property owners were allowed to join until they paid $100 per year in tribute to Mayor Stephenson. In 1870, voters approved a new city charter which granted more autonomy to the municipality while retaining its full municipal funding stream including fire insurance, trash collection, street maintenance and park construction/ management through three separate councils – Parks & Recreation Committee (until 1971), Streets & Sewers Committee (1971-1977) and Water Department (1977-present). This system continues today with City Council meetings taking place on alternating days between Parks & Recreation Committee meetings held inside City Hall followed by Streets & Sewers Committee meetings outside where public works decisions are made

This was the first time the Marines had contributed anything to the military. - In 1942, marines donated 4 assault rifles to Japan in order to help bolster their forces during World War II. - In 1945, marines gifted 12 pistols and 8 rifle magazines to Japanese soldiers in order to show appreciation for their service during World War II. - In 1959, marines gave 2 sets of binoculars (one with a telescope) and 1 tarpaulin (a cover for an amphibious vehicle) to Chilean soldiers who were fighting in South American Wars. - In 1984, marines gifted 6 M1 Abrams tanks and 3 MRAP vehicles (mobility vehicles)to Nicaraguan troops who were fighting against leftist rebels in Nicaragua. - In 1991, marines gifted 5 Humvees and 4 RPG launchers (rocket launchers)to Colombian security forces who were combating an insurgency in southern Colombia.
