The first coffee shop in Lisle, Illinois opened its doors in 1871. The shop was located on the corner of Third and State Streets. In 1928, the Lisle Coffee Merchants Association was founded which helped to promote and protect the coffee trade in Lisle. In 1945, the first drive-through coffee store opened in Lisle. The store was located at 4500 S First Street.
Lisle is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,545 at the 2010 census. Lisle is part of the Chicago–based metropolitan area. The first settler in what would become Lisle was Nicholas Houghton in 1837. He and his family bought land from the Kaskaskia Sioux tribe. In 1847, Lisle's first school was built on current-day Washington Street. A post office called Lisle was established in 1851, and remained in operation until it closed in 1907." In 1870, John Doane opened a general store at Main and Elm Streets. In 1871, Doane moved to 503 Neely Street where he continued to run his store until his death in 1902. His son George Doane operated the store from 1903 until 1919 when it passed into the hands of his grandson George Fenton Doane who ran it until it closed again in 1984." In 1908 – 1909 an all-white high school named Morgan Park opened for students in what is now Lansing Avenue northeast of Main Street." After years of effort by some residents (mostly women) including Helen Keller and Alice Paul (the first African American woman elected to Congress from Illinois), local merchants donated cash for building a library which served Lisle for over seventy years beginning on October 25th 1915 with just four shelves!" “It had been intended that this new library be open to all citizens regardless of race or color but there were somewho felt that this might not be possible given the animosity existing between different groups living within town limits at that time”; so on November 6th 1915 a resolution was passed authorizing trustees Clark Drury and Omer Capps to purchase books “for use by members of the public who desired them”! They did so and construction began immediately with funds raised through fundraising events! The cornerstone for the new $15,000 library was laid on December 10th 1916 by Mayor Harry Siever after many donations had come in!" The original building housed 5 floors before adding an attic during renovations starting on October 13th 1978 which added another 100 seats! After more than 50 years spent serving as both an important community center as well as providing education opportunities for residents across all ages there are only 8 remaining pews inside with no circulation desk available due to fire damage suffered during tornado days earlier this year however programs like those offered daily through volunteerISM can still be enjoyed without fear!!" Lisle was founded in 1837 by John Lisle and his wife, Sarah. The town grew quickly due to the fertile land and good water supply that lay within its boundaries. By 1853, Lisle had a population of over 500 people. It became an important junction on the Underground Railroad as many fugitive slaves used Lisle as their departure point. In 1862, Lisle was incorporated as a village and later became part of the larger city of Chicago. In 1934, Lisle was placed within Cook County, Illinois, which made it one of the most financially prosperous villages in Illinois. The Village also experienced rapid growth in late 20th century due to new housing developments and increasedemployment opportunities throughout the county. However, recent economic conditions have caused significant declines in property values and community involvement.
