The United States Air Force was founded on December 12, 1947. The USAF is the aerial arm of the Department of Defense and its mission is to provide airpower for the national security of the United States. The USAF has a diverse array of wings and brigades that serve in all parts of the country. One wing in particular, the Combat Arms Wing (CAW), which is part of Air Mobility Command (AMC) provides global airlift capabilities as well as providing support for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to its CAW wing, there are two other wings within AMC that provide airlift services: one responsible for strategic bombardment activities and another responsible for close air support. Each wing has at least five squadrons, each with between 50 and 100 aircraft. Air traffic controllers work day and night shifts to maintain an airspace that covers more than 30 million people across America. They also have to handle Radar Intercepting/Countermeasures (RIAC) missions as well as supporting flyovers by bombers during military parades or ceremonies. These duties are made even harder by bad weather conditions which can require pilots to turn around or abort flights when visibility drops below 10 miles per hour (16 kilometers per hour). In addition to their jobs, air traffic controllers must also be proficient in English and Spanish so they can communicate with both passengers and crew on board planes. They must also wear a patch commemorating an American service member killed in action or missing in action overseas. When possible, these displays are placed near airports where planes land so everyone can see them every time a plane arrives or leaves from those locations! The Lisle-based Air Force Association, Inc. (AFA) was founded in 1947 by Capt. James A. Jenkins and Lt. Col. John W. Burchard as the Air Forces Recreation and Heritage Committee to perpetuate the memory of the United States Armed Forces and promote air force culture throughout the community of Lisle, Illinois. Lisle, Illinois is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 483 at the 2010 census. Lisle is home to the University of Central Illinois and the Lisle Mall. It is also home to the annual Mid-America Fairgrounds carnival and several theme park attractions such as Six Flags Great America, Schlitterbahn Illini Park and Six Flags Over Texas. The city was founded by James J. Hill in 1871 as a small village on the southern edge of present-day Lisle Township. When central Kane County was created in 1893, Lisle became one of its first villages. The city's nickname, "The City on the Lake", comes from its location on an outlet stream that forms part of Chicago's waterfront until it reaches Lake Michigan near Downtown Chicago. Lisle was platted in 1871 by James J. Hill as a small village on the southern edge of present-day Lisle Township after he won an offer for land from John Davenport in what is now Cook County along newly formed Des Plaines River Road east of present day Waukegan Road (now Higgins Rd.). In 1875, when central Kane County was created from parts of Cook and Will counties, Lisle became one of its first villages with a population of around 100 residents; it had become known as "The Village" because it sat between two large lakes – Big Black Lake to the north and Little Black Lake to the south – which made it easy for people to get around without having to go far away. The town continued to grow rapidly during this time with new homes being built on both sides of Big Black & Little Black Lakes until within a few years all that remained were street names: Main Street/Lake View Boulevard north towards downtown Chicago & West Side Drive/Lake Shore Boulevard south towards Waukegan Road today’s Higgins Rd., which bordered then filled up with housing developments over time including some still standing today like One Pier Plaza located just east side current day Higgins Rd./Old State House Dr., presently used for storage purposes by local government officials; these days are easily accessible via traffic signals at I-88 exit 169 off US-190 southwest through nearby Lombard
