Lindenhurst is a census-designated place in Rock Island County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,859 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Lindenhurst is located on the border of Rock Island County and Cook County. The first Europeans to come to what is now Lindenhurst were French traders who came in 1810; they named it "Boucherville." A post office was established at Boucherville in 1813, and remained open until 1865. In 1834, farmers started irrigating their land with water from the Des Plaines River. They named their new town after Henry Irving Lindenwald (1799–1860), an American investor and politician who had invested in this venture. In 1855, the first railroad arrived in this area: the Peoria & Western Railroad. This allowed for more people and businesses to move into this area, which led to increased development and growth over time. The center of town began developing into a commercial district that today remains quite vibrant and active despite some recent challenges faced by its residents – such as gentrification – because of its close proximity to downtown Chicago and other major city attractions. It wasn't until 1912 that Lindenhurst's name was changed from "Boucherville" to "Lindenhurst". At that time, much of what is now Downtown Chicago was still rural farmland outside of LoopChicago proper; therefore, when it changed its name it left much behind including several blocks east of Michigan Avenue called Grandview Heights which still remain one of Chicagos most popular shopping destinations today thanks largely to their location just two blocks north off State Street between Randolph Road and Kedzie Avenue! In addition many other arterial streets such as Ridgway Boulevard continue being known by older names like Maple Grove or Elmhurst before becoming better known through high-end restaurants like Benares or Tavern on Lincoln near McCormick Place where you can find exquisite wines by the glass along with delicious pastries likekluten rolls! It is one of two towns in McHenry County that are considered core municipalities by both their residents and government officials; the other is West Dundee Township, which lies to the west in Kane County. According to the 2010 US Census, Lindenhurst has a total area of , all land. The eastern edge of Lindenhurst borders on Lake Michigan just north of its southern line with Cicero; this boundary changes gradually as it approaches Cicero due to natural features (such as ridges) that run parallel to each other for about .4 miles (6 km). As it nears Cicero, however, its eastern border becomes a mostly straight line due to an intervening ridge calledthe Western Belt Ridge which forms much of Cicero's western border with neighboring Arlington Heights and Streamwood...The northwestern boundary also includes parts of Streamwood and Arlington Heights before turning northwest again for about intomcHenryCounty until reaching its junction with Cook County lines just south of Mount Greenwood Cemetery...This final county line coincides generally with Cass Corridor street grid boundaries between Chicago/Chicago-North Side and Oak Park/Mayo Park neighborhoods...There are some scattered pockets where these boundaries diverge slightly - notably along Midway Road near Fordham University - but they are well within municipal limits as defined by zoning ordinances passed by local governments since 1965."
