Lindenhurst is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,752 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is the home of Villa Park Mall, one of the largest mall districts in Chicagoland and one of the fastest-growing areas in Illinois. It also has a large college population with many universities located within easy driving distance. The earliest permanent settler was Nicholas Hutton who arrived in 1795. He founded what is now known as Fort Dearborn on the south side of Chicago. In 1837, he married Maria Keyes and they donated land to form Villa Park Township which later became Lindenhurst Township when it was organized as a village in 1871. By 1870, there were 2,500 residents living in Villa Park township and by 1900 there were 10,000 people living there including 8500 single men and 4000 families. The first post office opened in 1865 and the first grocery store opened in 1876. In 1907 John Anson Sears purchased 3 acres (1 km²) near present-day Villa Park for $100 to build Lake View Shopping Center which became one of Chicagoland's most popular shopping destinations with over 100 stores including Sears Roebuck & Co., Macy's Inc., JCPenney Inc., Sears Canada Ltd., Sam's Club Corporation and Kmart Corporation among others during its heyday from the early 1960s to 1990s followed by numerous expansions over time until it closed its doors for good on November 12th 2006 after 113 years of operation serving more than 260000 customers each week! Lindenhurst has seen plenty of industrial growth since World War II with companies such as Chrysler Group (Chrysler Plymouth), ConAgra Foods (Plymouth Grains), Ford Motor Company (Ford Pinto), General Electric (GEICO) and MANCHESTER ROYAL CYCLING CLUB moving into or expanding their operations here during that time frame making this area an important player not only economically but culturally as well! With so much going on here constantly it can be hard to know where to start but we thought it would be helpful to provide some background information about what led up to today’s municipality with 54k residents according to2010 census data: Prior to World War II Lindenhurst served primarily as a small agricultural town consisting mostly of farmers who grew corn, cotton and other crops; however manufacturing activity took off during that decade thanks largely to Chrysler’s assembly line production at their nearby factory location across from Villa park lakefrontage
