Lindenhurst, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is located on the border of Cook and DuPage Counties. Lindenhurst was founded in 1871 by Danish immigrants Ole and Ingrid Lindehus. The community was named after Lundenhusen, a farmstead near Copenhagen. The first store opened in 1872 and the first post office in 1876. The Lindehusens ran a general store until they sold it to John Hagedorn in 1916. Hagedorn remodeled the store into a two-story wood frame building with an attached garage andresidential block that housed up to twelve families. The original Elm Street School opened in 1906 and served grades kindergarten through eighth grade until it closed in 1951 due to budget cuts. It reopened as part of Park Ridge High School before being moved to its current location on Lincoln Avenue in 1979. In 1924, developer Harry Weisman built his estate on a tract of land east of town along Lincoln Avenue from what is now North Aurora Boulevard to present day Racine Street south of village limits (now O'Hare Road). Weisman's estate included fourteen houses straddling Racine Street between Elm and Kedzie Avenues between 1922-1927; all but one were destroyed during World War II when bombing raids destroyed many Chicago homes which were then rebuilt according to Weisman's specifications - including those at 624 Niles Ave., also known as "Weisman House". A total of nineteen properties were purchased by various private parties between 1944-1945 for use as housing for workers who constructed the new Soldier's Home just west of town across Union Pacific Railroad tracks north ofpresent day Harlem Drive/Highway 131stStreet (now Dempster Road) west of present day Lindenhurst High School property line; however only seven structures remain within present day Lindenhurst Village boundaries including Weisman House which has been owned by the village since 1945 A recent project undertaken by village trustees is restoration and modernization ofWeisman House which will include interior design, updated equipment, and commentaries from original builders about their construction techniques Today Lindenhurst continues its growth as a vibrant community with active businesses such as IGA grocery stores (Ithaca), KFC chicken restaurant (Lake Zurich), CVS Pharmacy (Lisle), Barnes & Noble bookstore (northwest corner Of Yorktown Road/East Butler Rd.), local doctor Drury Clinic (southwest corner Of Yorktown Rd./West Butternut Drive.), ice cream parlor Dairy Queen Milky Way Coaster Rides(northwest corner Of Yorktown Rd./East Butler Rd.), bike shop Sears bicycle dealership(southwest corner Of Yorktown Rd./West Butternut Drive.)and several churches such as St Andrews Episcopal Church(east sideOfYorktown Road/South Holland Ave.), First Baptist Church(northwest sideOfYorktown Road/North Holland Ave.), Methodist ProtestantChurch(east sideOfYorktown Road/South Holland Ave.)and Sacred Heart CatholicChurch.(south sideOfYorktownRoad/North Holland Ave.). Lindenhhurst also offers excellent educational opportunities with three high schools: Lisle Central HS (grades 9-12), Westchester HS (grades 7-9), and Park Ridge HS (grades 10-12). There are also numerous other primary or middle schools including Friendship Heights Elementary School serving students prekindergarten through sixth grade; Crestwood Intermediate School serving students seventh through ninth grades; Grosse Pointe Woods MiddleSchool serving students tenth through twelfth grades; Schaumburg Township Junior HighSchool serving students thirteen through fifteen years old.; Arlington Heights Senior HighSchool serving students sixteen years old or older ().

Lindenhurst is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2000 census. Lindenhurst was first settled in 1853 and named for Dutchman Hendrik Lindenberg. The name change to Lindenhurst after the death of its first settler, Johannes van der Heyden. The town of Lindenhurst was established in 1853 on the east side of the Chicago River by German immigrants who had come overland from Germany. At that time there were no towns within Cook County and most people lived near the city on the west side. In 1857, the first post office was established inLindenhurst and settlement continued until 1889 when it became part of suburban Chicago. In 1886, a group of men led by Jens Wilhelm Jensen bought land east of downtown Chicago and started to build what would become known as Forest Park which included parts of Lindenhurst and other villages along its perimeter. Today Forest Park includes over 150 acres (60 hectares) including several golf courses and lakeside homes dating back to before World War I. The community has experienced many changes throughout its history – some good, some bad – but one thing has always been strong: its sense of community spirit which has helped make it an attractive place to live, work or raise children. From small businesses to large organizations such as North Side Honda-Civic Club or FirstMerit Bank America-the town has seen success through hard work, dedication and camaraderie - something that still exists today despite various challenges faced by both locals and newcomers alike.
