Lindenhurst is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is located on the east side of Chicago. Lindenhurst is bordered by the city to the south and west, Elmhurst to the north, and Northbrook to the east. The first European settlers in Lindenhurst were Frenchmen who arrived in 1784. They built a small fort on a hill near present-day Main Street and named it Fort de la Ville (city). In 1815, Colonel George Watkins founded Lindenhurst Academy which still exists today as an private school. In 1820, Dutch immigrants arrived and began farming on what is now Elmhurst Boulevard. By 1830, most of the original township had been created with farms that stretched from Elmhurst Boulevard west to Dearborn Avenue. The area around Dearborn Avenue was developed as part of what is now Midtown Chicago. In 1837, two brothers - Jacob L’Homme and Francois Bourgeois - started an agricultural company that would become one of the largest in America. The company bought land all around Chicago for farming purposes and then shipped goods back and forth across Lake Michigan usingsteamboats called "L’Homme's Ships." The company became very successful and by 1850 had purchased over 100 acres (40 hectares) of land between Dearborn Avenue on the north side of Chicago and State Street on the south side of Chicago

Lindenhurst, Illinois is a town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,658 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The Lindenhurst post office was established in 1847 and closed in 1964. The first settler to come to what would become Lindenhurst was John Prentice in 1836. He built a cabin on a small island near the Straits of Mackinac between Lake Michigan and Superior. A few years later he erected an log store and farm house on land that now makes up much of the eastern edge of Lindenhurst Township. In 1851, Isaac Robbins came to Lindenhurst from Galesburg, Illinois and began trading goods with the Indians along the Mackinac River. In 1863, Abraham Lincoln came through Macomb County on his way to Gettysburg; while passing throughLindenhurst he stopped at Robbins' store for dinner before continuing his journey In 1865, when Elihu Root took over as Commissioner of Indian Affairs for Michigan Territory (later Indiana), he ordered all Dakotas removed from their traditional hunting grounds east of the Missouri River because they were considered "un-American." This order led to armed conflict between white settlers and Dakota Sioux over access to food resources which continued into the late 19th century In 1870, Abraham Lincoln again stop by Robbins' store during his trip downriver; this time for lunch before continuing on his journey north In 1871 Rufus King purchased two hundred acres southeast of town from Abram Washington Forrester for $1 per acre . After acquiring this land he began subdivisions which became known as "King's Land" northeast of town . By 1886 there were 656 residents in town including 128 farmers ; manufacturing had begun trading with other nearby cities such as Chicago due to good transportation connections offered by early railroads On September 30th 1888 when Wabash Railroad reached its end at Rockford Junction it severed ties with Springfield IL&NW which also ended tie with Detroit MI leaving only ChicagolandRailroad remaining stretching back into Indiana offering service all the way To Milwaukee WI
