Lindenhurst is part of the Chicago metro area and is bordered by the towns of Cicero to the north and west,Oak Lawn to the east, and Hinsdale to the south. Lindenhurst was platted in 1847 as a station on the Illinois Central Railroad. The village was named for Isaac Lindenbaum, an early settler in what is now Lindenhurst. In 1872, when the railroad line was re-routed through Cook County from Rockford to Joliet, Lindenhurst became part of that new route. The Village had one school from 1870 until it closed in 1915; however since then there have been many schools within a few miles of Lindenhurst including Mount Carmel High School which opened in 1978 and also serves as home field for West Side Johnny Vee (a high school baseball team). The initial growth of Lindenhurst took place around manufacturing activities such as foundry work and farm production but has since diversified into various types of businesses including health care services, real estate development/rental units (including many senior living communities), agriculture (especially corn farming), retail sales, professional services (lawyers included), and some light industrial activity. Lindenhurst is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is part of the Wheaton–North Wheaton, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lindenhurst was first settled in 1810 by Nicholas Lindenthal and his family. The name "Lindenhurst" comes from ahti-nuhg (ichthyoflagellate) which grow abundantly along the river's banks. A mill built in 1814 served as the cornerstone of what is now Lindenhurst Elementary School. In 1836, John Tilton opened a store on Main Street that became one of the most successful businesses in town until itclosed its doors in 1905. In 1865, General George Armstrong Clark and his staff visited Lindenhurst while on their way to la Crosse, Wisconsin and were so impressed with its beauty that they donated land for an agricultural college at what is now known as Drake University. The college was founded in 1867 and named for General Ulysses S. Grant after he helped make it possible. After World War II ended, many local farmers moved away and modernized their lifestyles so that Lindenhrust would not be left behind; however this did not happen overnight and there are still traces of old-fashioned farming here today including several large corn cribs still standing around town center where farmers used to gather morning dew before working their fields day or night . The post office at Lindenhurst had its beginnings in 1861 when Alfred Hitchcock opened a post office on the corner of Main Street and Maple Avenue. Hitchcock's shop closed down but mail continued to be delivered through private carriers until 1907 when the government took over these services under the name United States Post Office Administration (USPOPA). In 1924, USPOPA merged with predecessor organization Western Union Telegraph Company to form American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T). As AT&T grew more powerful than western rivals like Westinghouse Electric Corporation (WEC) and Bell Laboratories Inc., they decided to move their corporate headquarters from Pittsburgh to Arlington Heights, Illinois – just across Lake Michigan from Chicago – making Lindenhurst one of few towns located within reach of downtown Chicago’s vibrant business district during this time frame . In 1957 USPOPA merged with Alcoa Incorporated which made it easier for companies like AT&T to compete with GEICO customers who were then using separate phone systems operated by different companies such as Northern Telecom Corporation (NTelcom), Ameritech Communications Corp., WCAU Radio Station WBZ-TV/CW 33 , Motorola Electronics Co., Incorporated etcetera .
