At this time many smaller communities surrounding Midway Airport such as Lincolnwood – whose only connection locally was arterial Route 66 – lost touch with larger areas either via mail or telephone . Lincolnwood is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, located about 25 miles northwest of Chicago. The population was 7,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Joliet area and is bordered by Will County to the north, Kane County to the east, and DuPage County to the south. The Lincolnwood community was first settled in 1835 by Quakers who arrived from Lancaster Township, Pennsylvania. In 1846, John A. Logan purchased land in what is now Lincolnwood from a group of farmers for $10 per acre. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln moved his family from Springfield to this area and took up residence on a farm that he had bought two years earlier. In 1915, Mayor John Fenton announced plans for construction of an expressway through central Cook County which would run through Lincolnwood and other nearby towns and villages. The highway was built over time but never opened as planned because it was opposed by many residents who felt that it would reduce their ability to live locally. After World War II ended with Japan's surrender, many Japanese immigrants arrived in Illinois looking for work in new industries such as agriculture or manufacturing. Many of these people were brought overland from Japan via trains called "rice cars". As they got closer to Chicago they were met with hostility by local citizens who saw them as foreigners without any connection to our country or its democratically elected government. This tension culminated in violence on October 15th 1945 when several hundred Japanese Americans living near Wrigley Field were attacked by white supremacists angry over their presence
