Since the early 1800s, sailors and Marines have been deployed to support local communities in Illinois. The Navy has a long and proud history of deploying gift items to help servicemen and women in the state. The first Naval Deployment Command was established in 1903 as part of the United States Naval Forces Europe. In 1928, it became the Fleet Marine Force Europe. In 1951, it was renamed the United States Navy Expeditionary Service Command. In 1968, it became Headquarters, U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Central Mediterranean Area (HUEA). The current name is Headquarters, U.S. Pacific Fleet-Lake Zurich/Illinois Area (HUPACLA). In 1948, Rear Admiral John Wohlgemuth leased land at 24th Street and State Street in Lake Zurich for use as an installation for naval forces engaged in peacekeeping operations around Africa during the Cold War era (Luzon here refers to Zaire/now Democratic Republic of Congo). This installation was known as "Navy Beach". The first gifts from the Navy were brought ashore on this property on October 3rd 1948 by First Lieutenant Donald Hannon with a hut made from plywood and corrugated iron salvaged from a navy ship docked at Yankton Army Terminal near Sioux Falls, SD which had served as headquarters for Fleet Marine Force Europe until that time On November 10th 1948 Rear Admiral Wohlgemuth presented Commanderin Chief Harry S Truman with a beautiful blue enameled sterling silver service clock donated by Mrs Lesley McNamara who lived at 1600 N Sherman Ave NW Washington D C Commanderin Chief Harry S Truman thanks Mrs McNamara for her donation by writing: "I appreciate your kind offer to contribute $1,500 towards building our new watchtower on Naval Beach." On January 1st 1949 Rear Admiral Wohlgemuth presented Commanderin Chief Walter Bedell Smith with two beautiful white gold Rolex Submarines returned from Okinawa after being used as war trophies by Japan These watches were given to Captain Smith personally - his second submarine return after World War II . Commodore James Fenton piloted one of these submarines when he won fame as Squadron Leader USS Constitution CV-4 during WWII . Commodore James Fenton also gave back three Lifejackets to each survivor of Solomon Islands – Operation Neptune's Spear which took place off Soerabaja Island on December 8 1944 Americanflag boat Rangoon [2] Commodore James Fenton also donated a pair of USAAF flight gloves which he had received from Air Vice Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder , former Deputy Director General RAF Bomber Command responsible for air defense against nuclear attacks

Lake Zurich is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 71,521 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Illinois after Chicago. Streets were laid out according to grid pattern; today's streets were first developed in this manner around 1900 during streetcar construction southward from Cicero Avenue through downtown Chicago towards Racine Avenue (later Madison Street). The economy started to decline soon after incorporation as businesses moved away from agriculture and into more established markets such as Detroit or Buffalo because transportation costs were lower there. However, redevelopment began later in the 20th century with help from local government officials led by Mayor John Daley who saw opportunity in high-quality job-training programs that could be delivered within walking distance of downtownChicago via surface streets like Dearborn Street or Niles Avenue
