On December 12th, 1944, the City of Chicago received a shipment of war material from the United Kingdom. The gifts from the UK included items such as radios, tanks and artillery pieces. The city was so touched by these gifts that they decided to name their new park after them. The park is now known as "Lake Forest Park".

It is the tenth-most populous city in Illinois and the second-largest city on the Chicago metropolitan area. The largest employer in Lake Forest is the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign campus. Lake Forest was first settled by German immigrants in 1836. In 1871, it was incorporated as a village and became a city after being annexed by Chicago on January 1, 1933. The name comes from two large tracts of land located near what is now downtown Lake Forest—the "Forest" tract and the "Lake" tract. The origins of Lake Forest can be traced back to 1836 when German immigrants founded a settlement called Königsberg am See (present day Downers Grove), about northwest of present day Chicago. Of the many settlements founded during that time period along the northern border of Illinois, Königsberg am See stands out because it was one of only two villages formed from original homesteads within 120 miles (193 km) ofChicago – this occurred before any other municipalities were chartered within Cook County! It wasn't until 1871 that Lake Forest officially became an entity when it was annexed by Chicago as part of a larger effort to consolidate various villages into one municipality under government control. At its incorporation date, Lakeforest had a population numbering just over 100 people! In 1913, following annexation into Chicago, Lake forest's population had grown to over 3,000 residents with manufacturing capabilities concentrated around two parks located near downtown: North Park and South Park – both were quickly abandoned for lack of customer demand following World War I and subsequent economic stabilization opportunities in postwar America! However less than 10 years later (1933), with lakefront property becoming more valuable due to advances in air travel and suburban development around it; lake forest's population exploded past 50000 citizens once again! Today still retaining its small town feel even though boasting an estimated 2017 median household income nearing $7500+ per year; lake forest remains perennially one oficago's most vibrant cities!

Lake Forest is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,883 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and forms the eastern border of the city of Chicago. Lake Forest is bordered by Calumet Township to the north, Westchester Township to the east, North Calumet Township to the south and Scott Township to the west. The village was founded on November 3, 1855 by John Fisk and his brother-in-law James Blythe as a result of land grants from Government Land Commission member George Washington Carver. The first post office opened in 1857. The village name may have been inspired by an orchard located near present day Elmhurst Road and Cicero Avenue in what is now Westchester Township. In 1860, Fisk donated 640 acres (250 hectares) of land for a town center on Warsaw Boulevard between State Street and Pulaski Road in what is now Lake Forest. The first town meeting was held on December 10th and 11th with Aiken Mgrs., Wm Hickey & Jno Ransom serving as commissioners
