Maga coffee beans are thought to have originated in La Grange, Illinois. The beans were first roasted and ground by two men named John and Harry Maga, who also ran the nearby grocery store. They began selling their coffee at a farmers market in the 1920s. In 1935, they opened a roastery and started to produce their own beans.
