Gourmet Coffee began in La Grange, Illinois as a business started by two friends, Don and Linda Wiegand. In the early 1970s, they were the only coffee shop in La Grange with a 16-ounce roasting machine and they started selling their own coffee. They also served light breakfast sandwiches with their coffee. In the late 1990s and 2000s, Gourmet Coffee moved to its current location on FM 555 in La Grange. The new location has a large variety of flavors of roasted beans from all over the world and offers great value for your money. They also have a wide selection of espresso drinks and lattes. La Grange is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,903 at the 2000 census. La Grange is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in LaGrange was James Hickey in 1814 and the next year he and his wife Immaculate (née Hull) founded a small farm on the east side of town. In 1837 LaGrange became an incorporated village with a Board of Supervisors and two Courts of Justice; it had a population of 375. In 1885 LaGrange became one of seventy-eight townships in Cook County when that county was created from parts of DuPage and Lake counties. Prior to this, all but three townships within Cook County were single family villages or farms with no indication that they would become large municipalities; only La Grange had this opportunity. In 1907, when Illinois entered into its first statehood campaign, Mayor John Phelan called for a referendum on whether to make La Grange an incorporation city as well; despite opposition by some residents who saw incorporations as giving too much power to the City Council over their personal lives, the referendum passed by wide margins (71% to 29%). As part of Illinois' entry into World War I, local businesses donated equipment and supplies to military units fighting in Europe; these donations continue to be memorialized through various activities such as army balls and parade days throughout the community today. During World War II many factories closed down due to wartime production restrictions; however, because so many people were employed directly by individual businesses within La Grange's downtown business district nothing was lost during this time period other than destroyed buildings and records: evidence that small towns can still thrive even during difficult times. The post-war boom brought about increased growth for both demographics: la grangerians began moving out into surrounding neighborhoods while remaining supportive of their own community institutions (e.g., churches).
