La Grange Park is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,403 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. LaGrange Park is located on the north side of Chicago, between the Chicago River and Lincoln Avenue. The community was founded in 1871 by John A. Grange as a subdivision of Forest Hills on the west bank of the Chicago River. LaGrange Park originally consisted only of a few homes and fields near what is now its downtown core; it gradually grew into a large village with over 1,000 residents by 1915. The Village formed an ordinance to annex adjacent unincorporated areas in 1926; this annexation created much of present-day LaGrange Park. According to one source, "the first settlers who arrived in La Grange Park were men from Iaşi ( Romania ) and Transylvania (Hungary ), among others." One resident recalled that when he first moved to LaGrage Park "I thought it was going to be like some other small towns around here - not too big or too small." But soon he realized that his new home would have plenty of space for him and his family: "It wasn't until I started having kids that I realized how important it was to have plenty of room." In addition to housing their own families, early residents also raised chickens and pigs on their property; these activities continue today as part of local cultural heritage. Today's La Grange Park begins its history with many proud residents who fought for its establishment as a village: George Kessler became one of its first mayors in 1924; treasurer James Jankowski served two terms from 1928-1932; Samuel Ziegler represented the Village during World War II as an American sergeant in German forces.; Willard Ladd became Mayor after Ziegler's death in 1942 and held office until 1949 ; future Ulysses S. Grant Wood served as Chairmanpersonnel for both City Councils from 1951-1958 before becoming state legislator 1961-1964 . La Grange Park is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 9,819 at the 2000 census. La Grange Park is located east of Chicago on the border of Cook and Will County. It has a full two-day post office, with ZIP code 60533. The first European to set eyes upon LaGrange Park was Captain John Smith on October 14, 1679 when he and his crew were exploring what is now Buffalo Grove Township in south suburban Cook County. After landing on an island in the Fox River near today's intersection of Harlem Road and Lake Shore Drive, Captains Smith and his men explored this area for several days before returning home on October 17th aboard the " Discovery ". On November 3rd, 1812 French trader Antoine de Bougainville anchored off the mouth of the Fox River opposite where LaGrange Park now stands while seeking passage to Canada from Saint Petersburg (now Russia). Heading northward from Fort Wayne (now Indianapolis) under cover of darkness he encountered a group of ten Indians who had been fishing near present day Weldon Avenue and North Side Road. After exchanging fire with their weapons they ran into shore where Bougainville stopped to send back word to his captain about what happened. Shortly thereafter another group of natives arrived from the same direction also firing their arrows at Bougainville but no harm came to him or his shipmates. The next year French traders François Xavier Poulin and Nicolas Joliet discovered large coal deposits at Mount Prospect northeast of La Grange Park which led directly to its development as a country resort by early 19th century Americans including General James K. Polk who served as Ulysses S Grant's secretary during part of that time period In 1846 LaGrage married Miss Mary Aiken in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania; they returnported to America in 1848 after her father died suddenly while they were living in Europe They had one daughter before she married Colonel George Buell Jr.. In 1861 Mrs. LaGrage lost her leg below the knee during an attack by Confederate cavalry while serving as colonel's nurse at Fort Donelson Tennessee during Union Military Operation Overland . Colonel Buell soon took over her duties as commanding officer for all female nurses working with military hospitals throughout Georgia . Lieutenant Colonel Gail Borden became Mrs.'s second wife on July 26, 1898 when she left active duty with service number 81410 through December 1st 1908 after having given birth three children: Garland John Borden (born October 15th 1912), Eleanor Roosevelt (born May 14th 1915), Franklin D Roosevelt Sr.( born April 12th 1933) all American citizens both Adults & Children who reside here currently without any legal action being taken against them therefore presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt & accordingly await trial
