Today's La Grange Park is bounded by North Avenue on the west side; Stevenson Road on the north side; Lakeview Avenue on the east side; Diversey Street on the south side; and Roscoe Street between Addison Street and North Avenue. La Grange Park was officially founded on November 10, 1871 when a group of farmers named La Grange formed the La Grange Agricultural Society. The society purchased 6 acres of land at the intersection of Ottawa andGriffin Streets in what is now the city of Chicago. On September 15, 1872, they sold their first lot to Colonel John H. Kinzie for $1,000. On October 4, 1872, they bought 2 more lots for $2,500 each. The La Grange Park Association was organized on December 3rd that year. The first president was Isaac Prentice Hull and the first secretary was Fenton J. English. In 1886, the association acquired 5 more acres and changed its name to LaGrange Park Trust Company Limited. It remained in this form until 1928 when it became part of the City of Chicago through an act passed by Mayor John Rennie and City Council Member Arthur Godfrey
