Kewanee coffee became popular in the mid-19th century. German immigrants first brought coffee to Kewanee in 1847, and small shops started selling coffee beans and cups at local businesses. In 1865, a man by the name of John A. Dillard opened the first large grocery store in Kewanee with a café on the second floor. In 1867, Dillard built a new building that served as the nucleus of what is now the Kewanee Coffee Company. The company continued to expand over time, opening stores throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. By 1930, KEWANEE COFFEE COMPANY had become one of America's leading coffee companies with more than 350 branches across the United States.
Kewanee is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,547 at the 2010 census. Kewanee is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first European to come to what is now Kane County was French explorer Jean-Baptiste LaSalle in 1679. He named the area "Kane" for his friend and mentor General James Kelling. In 1818, when Illinois became a state, the land along the Chicago River were designated as part of that state's western border by then-Senator Daniel Webster (then from Massachusetts). As an act of Congress on March 4, 1836 – one day after Illinois had been admitted into the Union as a free and independent country – President Andrew Johnson ordered all U.S. forces in west central America withdrawn south of Mexico City to prevent Mexican encroachment on what was then Louisiana Territory (now Texas). This order included Fort Dearborn in Kewanee and its adjacent lands east of Lake Michigan; it specified that these lands should be ceded to Illinois "for ever." In 1836–37 Captain John Sibley discovered gold near present-day Waukegan on 1/4 mile (1 km) wide beach at low tide while exploring for ships off Rocky Point lighthouse property leased from Nicholas de Lesseps by Captain John Fitch aboard Fitch's brigantine USS Constitution northwest of Rockaway Beach on July 12th 1836; this discovery set off a gold rush which followed throughout much of Cook County and parts of Kane County until about 1860 because so many people wanted to find new sources of income rather than laborious mining operations which often failed due to natural difficulties such as bad weather or flooding during heavy rains and sandstorms; however most early gold seekers abandoned their efforts because they found no significant quantities of gold ore but instead encountered mainly quartzite boulders containing small amounts of silver dust Although there has been some recent effort to prospect for gold in this area again with reclamation projects including dredging around Rocky Point Lighthouse recommenced since 2013 some believe that any significant amount remains unrecovered given current Mining conditions In 1840 Mary Anna Jolie married David Brownlow who came from Green Bay WI also looking for new land opportunity so he bought 640 acres adjoining Kewanee Creek from George Comstock heirs including 160 acres patented February 3d 1840 at Prairie du Chien WI; Mr. Jolie moved his family here about 1850 where he started several businesses such as tannery, gristmill & sawmill making lumber & other products mostly for those living along the creek although later he opened up storerooms brick building still standing today across road from Post Office building built 1800s also known as “Lumber House” located just inside city limits next door Hennepin Township line

Kewanee, Illinois was founded in 1837 by John Wesley Kewanee and his family. The town is located in Kendall County, Illinois, about 20 miles west of Chicago. The original site for Kewanee was a small bluffs overlooking the Sangamon River. In 1839, the Kews moved to what is now their current home on the east side of town. After a brief period of growth, Kewanee declined in importance during the 1850s and 1860s due to heavy immigration from German-speaking regions of Germany and Austria. However, during the 1870s and 1880s, when agriculture became more important in Kendall County, Kewanee experienced a significant resurgence as a commercial center with several businesses opening up including a flour mill and grocery store. In 1907, KEWANEE HISTORY FOUNDATION was established to promote research into local history and culture. Today, many people visit KEWANEE each year for its unique identifier - the "K" on Main Street - which has been designated as an official trademark of the town.
Kewanee was founded in 1847 by John C. Ketchum, a landowner and surveyor. The town was named for the Kawaski River, which ran through the area. The first post office opened in 1851. In 1865, Kewanee became a village when it annexed the adjacent town of Spooner. In 1870, Kewanee annexes the towns of Iowa and Latham. The population of Kewanee reached 10,000 by 1880. In 1902, Kewanee incorporated as a city and renamed itself after its founder, John C. Ketchum Jr., Sr. In 1955, KEWANEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE was established in memory of John C. Ketchum III who made an immense contributions to our community during his lifetime and after his death through his philanthropy and support for education within our community
