The USS Constitution Museum is located on the corner of Washington Street and State Street in downtown Kankakee. The USS Constitution was built by the shipbuilder Samuel Fenton at Portsmouth, New Hampshire in 1805. She served as a flagship of Commodore James Cook’s North American Squadron during the first Opium War (1839-1841). In 1846 she was transferred to the United States Navy and redesignated as the USS Constitution Museum ship. She served as an training ship for naval officers until her decommissioning in 1898. The USS Constitution Museum also has a collection of navy deployed gifts from World War II including medals, insignia, battleflags, aircraft parts and more. Some of these items were donated by servicemen or their families, while others were acquired through donations or auctions held throughout the years. In 1971, the city of Kankakee initiated a program to acquire any surplus military equipment that had been abandoned or mothballed within town limits. This led to the donation of two World War II vintage airplanes from RAF Bentwaters airfield near London England to help start up local aviation programs within Kankakee. These planes became known as “The Flying Tigers” and helped promote regional aviation programs within Kankakee until their retirement in 1991. Kankakee is a small town in Illinois, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Kankakee–Bethlehem, IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Kankakee area has been inhabited by Native Americans for many years. The first European to visit what is now Kankakee was Father Gabriel Lorette in 1795. French traders and travelers passed through this region during the 18th century and Jesuit missionaries visited here in the early 19th century. In 1836, General Simon Bolivar arrived in this area on his way to arm American revolutionaries against Mexico. He named the village Bolivar after his Venezuelan friend and mentor General Antonio de la Peña y Blanco. After he died, local residents decided to rename it Kankakee in his honor. During World War II, Kankakee was one of several areas in Illinois where troops were stationed for extended periods of time to provide food and other supplies for military operations overseas. Shortly after the end of World War II, KankakeEj became home to two large nuclear plants operated by Westinghouse Electric Company (WEC). These plants were key components of the country's post-war electricity industry and continue to produce power today as WEC Southern Indiana Station LLC. It also became home to a number of companies that manufactured electronic equipment which continues until present day including Radio Shack Inc., TI USA/Texas Instruments Incorporated/Electron Devices Laboratories (EDL), Microchip Technology Inc., Broadcom plc., Panasonic Lumix Co., Ltd., Seagate Technology Corporation, UTC Brands incorporated/UTC Aerospace Industries Coalesced Arms Holdings LLP et al.. Today little remains of original pioneer days such as Indian grain stores still standing today along Hwy 9 North from US Highway 6 east all around town mostly used for storage now with modern development inside but some evidence remaining like old millrace & dams still open today

Kankakee is a small town in southern Illinois that has been around since the 1800s. The community is located on the Kankakee River, about 25 miles east of Chicago. The town was founded by Dutch immigrants in 1795 and developed as a farming and lumber town. In 1847, Kankakee became a county seat of Cook County and it remained that way until 1915. In 1955, the town was annexed into the city of Chicago. Today, Kankakee remains a census-designated place (CDP) with a population of around 9,000 people. The history of Kankakee can be traced back to the early 1800s when European settlers arrived in what is now southcentral Illinois. Many of these settlers were farmers who decided to move downriver to escape heat and humidity during the summertime in New England. By 1795, some Dutch immigrants had also arrived in what is now Kankakee township and started to farm land there. By 1847, Kankakee had become one of the largest towns on the Illinois River because it had become an important location for lumbering operations. When Cook County was created from part of Northwestern Indiana in 1847, Kankakee became its county seat because other villages on the river didn’t have enough residents to support a courthouse building project. In 1955, when Chicago annexed much of southern Illinois including most of rural Cook County, Kankakee merged with neighboring village Clintonville into what is today known as Chicago’s “inner city” area – making it one of only two CDPs within downtown Chicago proper (the other being Albany Park). Today, both parts of Kankakee continue to display strong cultural ties with each other despite having different histories and populations: while Clintonville focuses its efforts on educationally disadvantaged inner-city children living near downtown;KANKAKEE preserves its traditional agricultural economy which revolves around raising livestock and producing cornmeal for local consumption; while Clintonville has built up an infrastructure for serving industrial businesses directly adjacent to their residential areas; both communities are home to many tourist attractions related specifically or broadly to their respective communities’ histories – such as museums operated by either community organizations or commercial operators within those organizations – making visits something which locals often enjoy both times throughout year
